Joel Macey is a life long Salt Laker who recently completed a Master degree in Gerontology at the University of Utah. Joel gives his insight into aging and how to do it gracefully with the help of a village model. Shurooq Al Jewari is an undergraduate student at the University of Utah who is studying Psychology. Shurooq is passionate about mental health and creating a culture where talking about mental health is less stigmatized and more accepted. Shurooq shares what it is like to be a part of Gen Z and how Gen Z has been approaching mental health. Shurooq advocates for our community to be better with mental health education and helping refugees adapt and integrate.

Walaa Hmeida is an undergraduate student at the Utah State University who is in the final year of her undergraduate degree in Psychology. Walaa is hoping to go onto become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the goal of helping kids. Walaa shares her family’s incredible journey of fleeing war in her home country of Syria, living in Turkey for 3 years, before being invited to come to the USA as a refugee. Walaa pushes us to go out of our way to make relationships with people who are different from us.

Pacifique Missi shares his journey from Congo, to Tanzania to Salt Lake City. Pacifique talks about his parents fleeing Congo because of war, life being born in a refugee camp in Tanzania, and having to live in the refugee camp for 16 years before finally migrating to the USA. Pacifique shares his insights on adjusting to life in Utah as a high school aged youth and advocates for our community to do better at integrating refugee youth into all areas of our communities.

Jason Stout and his family recently fled Ukraine because of the Russian invasion. Jason and his family were living in Ukraine to be closer to his wife’s family, who are native Ukrainians. Initially, Jason wanted to stay in Ukraine and help with the war efforts but he realized his skills and abilities might be more useful in helping gather very needed supplies that he could help get directly to Ukrainians on the front lines of the war while keeping his wife and family safe here in Utah. Jason is volunteering his time to assist the Responsibility Foundation in procuring and delivering basic frontline military supplies such as armored vests and helmets. Jason would like to give special recognition to Ben Gochberg and the team at Redemption Tactical for their support in his efforts.

Dr. Ana Antunes completed her PhD in Education at the University of Utah. Ana was born and raised in Brazil and then came to Utah as a student where she completed two Masters degrees before her PhD. Ana is a lifelong learner who hopes to help youth from diverse backgrounds get the educational opportunities they deserve. Ana and Pete explore what our community might improve on when it comes to challenging issues and topics related to education. Ana advocates for us all to do better in involving youth in conversations about how to help them, especially youth who move into our communities from refugee and immigrant backgrounds.

Teri Mumm is a proud and dedicated mother, the Executive Director of Utah Brewers Guild, a music lover and a 4x4 enthusiast. Her previous professional work has seen her lead community coalitions, plan and execute music festivals and champion positive community changes. Teri speaks to the recent overturning of Roe vs Wade by the Supreme Court and how those changes have affected her and her children. Teri shares her experiences and insight into raising a trans daughter and how we as a community can become more educated about the transgender community and the trans-related topics.

Marcie Young Cancio is a journalist, professor, and executive director at Amplify Utah, a media literacy and engagement project. Marcie speaks to her background in journalism and how we as a community should become more media literate. Marcie and Pete advocate for a solutions focused approach to many of the perceived divides promulgated by media outlets.  Marcie advocates for not viewing any challenge or problem with just one lens by sitting down and having discourse with each other about the important topics we see in our community.
