Gajendra Chauhan's appointment and the strike is a good time to review the FTII. Why should the propaganda arm of the state, the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, be running a film school? About time we got rid of this "subordinate office" of the ministry.

सिफारिश से हम हिन्दुस्तानियों का पुराना नाता है। या तो हम सिफारिश लिफ़ाफ़े में लिए घूमते हैं या सिफारिश की तलाश में रहते हैं, चाहे नौकरी हो या स्कूल में दाखिला। सिफारिश तो हमारे जीवन में प्रेम और आदर का पात्र है। तो जब बेचारे ललित मोदी को ज़रुरत पड़ी और जब विदेश मंत्री ने सिफारिश दी, तो ऐसा क्या गुनाह कर दिया?  

The commemoration and lament about the emergency comes mainly from the upper and middle classes, as it should. For the vast majority of the country, the constitutional rights that the emergency took away, never meant much. They continue to live in fear of the state and its apparatus.

Is it running the economy the chief task of a government?

A country is not a joint stock company whose annual reports should be measured by topline growth and earning per share.

The Karnataka High Court’s judgement, acquitting Jayalalithaa and her aides, makes a calculation error, which if corrected shows that the Chief Minister’s disproportionate assets are about 76.75% of her income and not 8.12%. Shouldn’t the error in a case as important as this one be rectified immediately? And isn't it time we re-examine the 10 per cent limit within which any disproportionate asset accumulator is safe?

It is no surprise that every time a celebrity is accused of a crime, industry friends and fans rush to lend support and testify to the star's otherwise flawless character. But how can wealth, fame and good deeds be grounds for lessening punishment for the guilty?
