  • Episode 89: New clients worried about non-refundable deposits due to covid

    Hey Snappers!

We don't just want to talk about covid, but it's definitely affecting all of us right now, so here we are again with some more covid chat. Both Greg and Thom have had new clients ask, given the circumstances, whether or not their deposit will be refunded if covid comes back strong and they have to postpone / cancel their wedding. We chat about how we deal with this question and what we've decided to do. We also go into business names: should you use your own name, or choose a generic (but hipster) business name? We then take a gander at the lovely website of Martin Ellard called My Big Day Wedding Photography, and we review it. Huge shout out to King Buffalo who allowed us to use their track Centurion in this episode.

  • Episode 88: Do wedding photographers need a side hustle?

Hi everyone! It's still lockdown and it's now been nearly been 8 weeks since Greg has shot a wedding... withdrawal symptoms are starting to show... But we find some nuggies to talk about including a great app called Amphetamine, for keeping your computer awake. A classic Facebook group called Crap Wildlife Photography, Canon's new cloud-based photo upload and storage system image.canon and a sweet Facebook Business bookmark timesaver. We also chat about potential side hustles and Thom offers some ideas including his brother's new online business vet-shop.net which is going great!

Then as part of our lockdown website analysis segment we check out Julia Rau's new site and give some feedback. It's another mint site, but we try to eek out some constructive criticism.

  • Episode 87: Canon R5 and R6 excitement and... does our job stop us taking photos at home?

Hi-de-hi snappers. Well we're as quiet as ever at Snappening HQ - we hope you're all staying sane out there through all this! So today we chat a bit about the new Canon offerings - the R5 and the rumoured R6 (this might be the wedding 'togs dream camera). We also wonder if being pro photographers means we're more reluctant to take photos for fun or at family events - is that a thing? Then we check out Samantha Donalson's website and give it the old GC/TC look over. It's a great site - check it out! www.samanthadonaldson.com

  • Episode 86: Hampers and Web Hosting

    Hey there, unemployed Snappers!

The first part of today's episode is a rollicking good time - you'll love it. We talk about Thom's new foster kittens, then Greg drops an all-time Lightroom snapdown that will blow your mind! We also chat about our love/hate relationship with those hamper baskets that venues often provide to a bridal party just before portraits. Who's gonna carry them? They just get in the way! We then move on to a new segment where we load up and review, on-air, one of our listener's websites, chosen from our Facebook page. In this case we are chatting about Pure Images Photography, based in Tauranga, NZ. From now on we'll try to chat about one website per week.

  • Episode 85: Pixieset to the Rescue!

Hey Snapisolators! Well admittedly we're getting pretty low on things to talk about, on account of neither of us actually shooting any weddings - however - we do have a few good nuggies to share. Greg is in the middle of building his new website and has discovered Pixieset (spoiler... he likes it a lot). Thom shares his new Instagram uploading app and if you're using BlogStomp, dan't make the mistake that Greg has been making for the past six years...!

  • Episode 84: Screw you, coronavirus

Hey snappers. Well, it seems that, like creative professional all over the world, we suddenly have heaps more time on our hands thanks to Covid 19. In episode 84 we talk about how the events of the last week have effected our businesses, and us personally. We talk about how many weddings we've lost or had to postpone, and how we have handled situations where a couple has requested a refund.

To be honest we don't talk about too much else... the industry is undergoing a pretty heavy period and we want to acknowledge this, but also to remind you all that you're not alone, we're in this together, and you're not the only one feeling lost and down. So hang in there!!

  • Episode 83: Celebrants are still misbehaving

Hey busy people! We managed to fit in a quick snap today - jeez it's hard this time of year - and have a chat about all kinds of things, ranging from celebrants (and their inability to be clear of the kiss) , the uncertainty of the Coronavirus situation, some Lightroom shortcuts and the usual banter about cars and bands. Oh and Greg loves Orico computer products!

  • Episode 82: rants, colour casts, food and various other things

    Hey Snappity Snappers

This week we don't really have a 'main topic' but we chat about various little golden nuggets of goodness. Thom has a new iPad Pro that he's using in sidecar with his laptop. Greg is loving his new NAS, and he also some some great Lightroom advice for cropping and image width.

We talk about the new Canon EOS R5 - it sure looks tasty.

We chat about what to do when your images have a really green colour cast; and then we get on a bit of a rant about photographers who try to blame software for their own laziness (it's quite entertaining).

  • Episode 81: Food glorious food! Or lack there of... And are we switching back to Canon?

Hi there, good to see you! We got back on the mics today and chatted about foooooood and how we always have issues getting fed at an appropriate time. Thom also talks about his new Lightroom library management and Greg is getting into NASs.

  • Episode 80: Canon EOS R mark ii rumours get us all hot and bothered

    Happy 2020 Snappers!

In our first episode of the decade, we talk about the various Canon EOS R mark ii rumours. If these rumours are to be believed, it looks like Canon have listened to users and are making a camera (or, several cameras) that fix all our issues with the current EOS R.

We jump into these rumoured specs and then ask the big question: would a dual card slot EOS R make us move back to Canon? Or are we now Sony 4 lyf-ers?

We also take a deep look into a listener question regarding how to handle a couple who cancels a few weeks before the wedding, and demands their entire payment back. It's a frustrating scenario that no doubt we'll all have to deal with at some stage or other, so tune in to hear our take!
