Mr. Shelby Sharpe is my most esteemed guest this week. He has been a lawyer since 1965 and was involved in the basic question “are homeschools private schools?” He filed a lawsuit against all the school districts on behalf of several homeschoolers and brought a class action suit, Leeper vs Arlington, to trial in January 1987 which changed the face of homeschooling for Texans. Join me this afternoon to hear the results of that trail blazing trial that still allows us, 23 years later, to educate our children legally at home.

I will be talking to Julie Meekins, a homeschooler who refused to take the diagnosis of her daughter’s CHARGE Syndrome lying down. We will talk about her positive approach, how God worked in her life and how she was moved to become a certified Neurodevelopmentalist. Julie will explain ND to us and share how all her children worked together to help her daughter progress through the natural development of her body, step by step. Julie stresses the importance of not skipping steps and her story is one of courage and love.

My guest this week is Mike Donnelly from HSLDA where he serves as staff attorney and director of international relations. Mike works to encourage greater freedom for homeschoolers all over the world. He is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of homeschooling. He and his wife homeschool their six children. We will talk about Mike’s background and discuss the work he does in America and around the world to ensure that homeschooling remains a parental choice.

Motivated by meeting a “normal” looking family who homeschooled, Dixie and her husband spent a year deciding whether it was a lifestyle they could embrace. After reading my book they made up their minds to take the plunge. Dixie and I talk about her experience teaching in the public schools and how she now views homeschooling.

This week my guest is Linda Sacco who traveled with her husband to war torn Beirut, Lebanon in the 1970’s and decided it was safer to homeschool her children in their house in the hills than to send them to school where they could get caught on the street in crossfire or stranded by a curfew. They experienced mortar fire and shelling but Linda was able to continue her children’s education despite several evacuations.
