We're kicking off Season 3 of the podcast by reconnecting with our souls! Janice and her guest Allyn Reid (founder of WooManity, a soul leadership development hub) discuss Allyn's work helping business leaders who have “tried everything” but hit a wall to shift toward running their business (and life) from a soul-led place. Allyn also shares how we all can begin the slow but transformative work of tuning into our soul so we can get out of autopilot mode and live with greater purpose and authenticity.

In this episode, Janice discusses how the well-known saying "Life is short" might make us feel like we should be doing things better, bigger, and more of. Janice shares how she's taken an authentic, oftentimes brave approach to life that has involved big moves, but that sometimes going slow and feeling "cautious" about the things we desire doesn't necessarily mean we aren't living life to the fullest.
Janice gives personal examples, ranging from travel dreams to new relationships, of where the "Life is short" mantra can show up. She discusses how a lack of privilege or challenging life periods, balancing two authentic but conflicting needs, and being stuck in old patterns can bring a lot more nuance and complexity to our life decisions than simply following a sometimes inspirational but one-size-fits-all quote.

In this episode, Janice and her dear friend Lucy Duong chat about the trauma-healing journey Lucy took after her sister completed suicide. Lucy shares about how hypnosis helped to get rid of her triggers – and how she was so inspired that she learned how to do hypnosis (as well as neuro-linguistic programming, NLP) herself!
Janice and Lucy discuss why it's so important to be more aware and intentional about what's actually driving us (subconsciously) to live life in the ways we do. This convo is full of golden-nugget insights, hope, and laughs. Enjoy!
CW: The topic of suicide is discussed in this episode. Please take care while you listen.

In this episode, Janice opens up about her experiences online dating during the pandemic and shares about a recent, shitty sexual experience she had that left her feeling disgusted, ashamed, and devalued. Janice discuss how she worked through those difficult feelings (using Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy) and the lessons she's learned since then about how she wants to authentically show up for herself in sexual relationships moving forward.
Note: The term “heteronormative” was used when at least sometimes “heterosexual” was meant – hopefully you get the gist!

In this episode, Janice shares about her experiences doing therapy: 1) What compelled her to do therapy in the first place; 2) what it’s been like to work with the different therapists she's had, including the differences doing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) versus trauma therapy with a mind-body approach; 3) what about certain therapists turned her off or made for a not-good fit; and 4) what has been helpful in therapy and even really critical in her healing journey.
Throughout the episode, Janice shares some thoughts on both the stigma and privilege around doing therapy, and acknowledges how uncomfortable it can be to start talking to a therapist! She also shares some general things to consider when exploring therapy, including her thoughts on different types of talk therapy, a therapist’s effectiveness being impacted by their own personal therapy work, and building trust with a new therapist.
This episode is part 4 of an ongoing series on healing trauma.
*Please note that Janice is not a trauma expert or therapist, and that this series shares about her one personal experience of learning about and healing trauma.
