WHATLEY — Approximately 300 Clarke County sixth graders — public, private, and home- schooled — joined in the Forestry Awareness Week Now educational program for an outdoor classroom presentation at Scotch Park in Whatley during a two-day event April 30 and May 1. WHATLEY — One arrest has been made and others could be forthcoming following a months-long investigation into three overdoses related to a drug house in Whatley, authorities said. Clarke County Sherif f DeWayne Smith said the investigation, led by Sgt. THOMASVILLE — Two people were killed Tuesday in a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 43 involving a tractor-trailer and four other vehicles which was deemed one of the worst in several decades in Thomasville by Mayor Sheldon Day. The Wildflowers Florist won first place in the third annual Crawfest Cook-Off at Shucker’s Seafood and Oyster Bar in Jackson on May 3. Superior Automotive was second and the St. Stephens Volunteer Fire Department was third. The Alabama House of Representatives passed on April 29 a pair of public safety bills that Republican lawmakers championed as central to the state’s effort to crack down on violent crime. Senate Bills 118 and 119, sponsored by Sen. Will Barfoot (R-Pike Road), are part of a broader state initiative aimed at reforming Alabama’s bail laws and tightening restrictions on firearm possession for violent offenders.
