Our guest this morning is Matt Bennett. Matt is in his second year as Communications and Special Events Manager for the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce.

He handles all media relations, social media and online communications for the Chamber.

Additionally, Matt is responsible for organizing and managing special events for the Chamber, including the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade, Sidewalk Festivals and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

He also coordinated the Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Rally at Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza in the summer of 2012.

Prior to joining the Chamber, Matt spent 15 seasons in Community Relations for the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A native of Florida, Matt received a Degree in Communications from the University of Florida and a Masters of Sports Management from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Matt and his wife Rebecca are 16 year residents of Hermosa Beach.

Today, Matt is going to tell us all about Fiesta Hermosa which is taking place this Memorial Day Weekend.

Mike’s 27 years of firefighting experience cultivated his expertise as a first responder for Hazardous Material situations.

As a Hazardous Materials Specialist, Mike has responded to numerous incidents for the Oak-Way Hazardous Materials Team, as well as being an Executive Board Member for Oakland County, South/Michigan.

As a primary core Instructor for the State of Michigan Hazardous Materials Training Center, Mike has created and delivered ground breaking courses in an International Forum.

He instructs at facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

His instruction also covers corporate entities, response organizations and universities.

Mike serves as Adjunct Faculty in higher education facilities throughout the state of Michigan in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety & Health and Hazardous Materials.

His on-site response has mitigated all types of events in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia.

Mike has authored two books, Practical HazMat and Practical Confined Space.

The event features free outrigger canoe and sail boat rides, kid’s crafts and activities, stand-up paddleboard demonstrations, life jacket and safety show and a variety of boat and marine displays.

In addition, a Coast Guard helicopter rescue demonstration is scheduled to take place.

Our guest this morning is Lynn Moloney, President of Advanced Egress Solutions.

Lynn is a mother of five and lives on Long Island in NY.  Prior to staying home to raise her family, she was the Branch Manager of a local bank.

While home raising the kids, she was active in local charities and schools. About 3 years ago her son's school held a fire drill. 

He had a broken ankle and was on crutches. His classroom was located on the second floor and since use of elevators is prohibited during a fire drill, he was told to wait by a window and in a "real" emergency, a fireman would come and get him.

Lynn couldn’t believe anyone would be left behind during a drill, no less a child.

She found neither of those solutions acceptable.

 

The inventor, Allison Backhouse, worked in a nursing home and found out during a presentation by the Fire Captain that there was no means to move a patient other than a bed sheet or blanket.

She came up with the idea to create a device designed to safely move incapacitated patients that would also be easy on the rescuer.

She has since added over 10 products to her inventory. She now carries the largest selection of Evacuation Devices in the United States.

Lynn is loving every minute of her new career and gets tremendous satisfaction from helping people find a solution to their egress challenges for disabled persons in emergencies.
