Today, we’re going to discuss a world-class museum located right here in the South Bay with guests Earl Rubenstein and Carl Jacobsen.

Earl is the founder of Rubenstein Architects established in 1967.

He also co-founded The Automobile Driving Museum; a non-profit organization that allows everyone to enjoy this dominant feature of America’s history.

Initially, Earl took interest in not only architectural design, but also as an automobile designer.

After WWII, independent automobile designers and custom car builders had disappeared.

However, Earl’s passion for cars was still there. In 2001, Earl co-founded The ADM. Starting in a small warehouse in West Los Angeles, he was instrumental in establishing a place where people could visit and benefit from the preservation of vintage vehicles.

This was made possible by allowing the public to take a ride in fabulously preserved vehicles every Sunday. The ADM allows the community to experience first-hand these beautifully preserved pieces of art.

He is a member of numerous foundations, organizations and programs that make El Segundo the wonderful city is. He is affiliated with the Community Emergency Response Team, a Charter Member of the Education Foundation Superintendent's Roundtable and Board member at The Automobile Driving Museum.

Carl was an early advocate of bringing the ADM to El Segundo and when the museum was relocated in 2007, he became the Lead Docent at the facility.

Being the Mayor of El Segundo, Carl believed having this unique amenity located in the city would offer a great cultural opportunity for the community.

Mike’s 27 years of firefighting experience cultivated his expertise as a first responder for Hazardous Material situations.

As a Hazardous Materials Specialist, Mike has responded to numerous incidents for the Oak-Way Hazardous Materials Team, as well as being an Executive Board Member for Oakland County, South/Michigan.

As a primary core Instructor for the State of Michigan Hazardous Materials Training Center, Mike has created and delivered ground breaking courses in an International Forum.

He instructs at facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

His instruction also covers corporate entities, response organizations and universities.

Mike serves as Adjunct Faculty in higher education facilities throughout the state of Michigan in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety & Health and Hazardous Materials.

His on-site response has mitigated all types of events in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia.

Mike has authored two books, Practical HazMat and Practical Confined Space.

This morning we’ll be discussing the Tour De Pier which will take place at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, May 19 and we have a great panel of guests to tell us all about it.

Heath Gregory is the President of Baron Real Estate and partner in The Strand House restaurant. 

He currently has three family members who are fighting terminal cancer: Brother-in-Law (Brain), Grandmother (Luekemia) and an Uncle (Colon).

Heath is a lifelong cycling fan who participated in a similar event put on by the Livestrong Foundation in Barcelona at the 2009 Tour de France. 

A friend of Heath’s, Jon Hirshberg, who lost his father to pancreatic cancer and helped found the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer approached him with the idea of doing a spin bike fundraiser. 

Heath was all in from the start.

Craig Hummer is a seven-time U.S. Ocean Ironman Champion and winner of over forty National and International Lifesaving Titles. 

The Emmy-nominated sports broadcaster has been involved in the alternative and action/lifestyle sports market for over twenty years; first as a professional athlete in Ocean Ironman racing, then as a commentator who has now widened his expertise into multiple sports.

Rodney is a Senior Emergency Management Consultant and Trainer with Readiness & Emergency Management 4, also known as REM4.

Rodney has been active in the Emergency Management Industry for 30 years.

His military job status translates to Emergency Management in the civilian sector.

Following his retirement from the Marines, Rodney continued his education in Emergency Management.

He earned his Master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management in 2007 and during the past 10 years, has provided a variety of emergency management contract support to the DoD, FEMA, DHS, State and Local agencies.

He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland University College.

I am a poet, philosopher and photographer. An ambitious amateur. And I am not interested in making money by any of those means because I think it kind of takes the fun out of it.

I never really figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I just continue to grow and be amazed by the world.

One of my best accomplishments was starting and nurturing a gardening business until it grew and bloomed and made me money and lifelong friends and a way to be outside.

I eventually sold it and my home and I and my partner bought an RV and now we travel full time. My home stays the same, but my view out the window constantly changes.

Our travels took us as far east as the tip of Texas to follow bird migrations. It is totally awesome what some birds go through to get from Pt. A to Pt. B.

Our migration pattern like so many so called Snowbirds is to flee south for the winter and head up to the higher elevations for the hot summer days.

People ask me where my fave places are, and the first place to come to mind is Canyon de Chelly, a National Park in Arizona, but other than that not near any major city. Going there is going back in time, like centuries.

You are driving along one minute in the desert when the ground drops several hundred feet. Now you are looking at a green belt and sensuous river serpentining along a valley with red rock walls.

This valley has been occupied and lived in for thousands of years. And not much has changed. I took pictures of course, but you really do have to see it to believe it.

I answered a survey once that asked you to say one word to describe yourself and your relationship with life.
