Our guest this morning is Sara Myers, President/CEO of the Volunteer Center South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach.

Sara became the President/CEO for the Volunteer Center in January 2016, rejoining the organization after having previously served as Program Coordinator and Office Manager. In the interim, she served as Executive Director of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation for nearly a decade, where she was responsible for fund development, financial management and board development. In addition to her nonprofit leadership experience, she also has a background in corporate communications, having spent four years in Public Affairs at the Exxon Mobil Corporation.

True to the Volunteer Center's mission, Sara is an active volunteer in the community. She is a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Long Beach, where she has served as a Vice President and Literacy Chair. She is also the lead coordinator for the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading Coalition in the Long Beach community and a champion for Milestone Two of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, both nationwide movements. Sara is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Long Beach and holds a B.H.A. in Multimedia Communications from Carnegie Mellon University. She is a native of Torrance, California, and currently resides in Long Beach with her husband.

Our guests this morning are Scott Ninegar and Art Herring from MB CERT. 

Scott Ninegar is a member of the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team, a Red Cross certified member of the MB CERT Emergency Medical Response Team and Red Cross certified CPR, First Aid and AED instructor. Scott also serves as a Disaster Response Coordinator and is a civilian volunteer coordinator for the Manhattan Beach neighborhood disaster response program, Map Your Neighborhood, under the direction of MBFD Battalion Chief Scott Hafdell. When Scott isn’t saving the neighborhood, he works as Director of IT Operations for Northrop Grumman’s Space and Defense sector. He is also the Director of IT Operations for the J Paul Getty Trust and a TRW Global Network Manager.

Art Herring is also a member of the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team. He sits on the Board of Directors and oversees training and is the Director of MBCERT Emergency Medical Response Team. Art is an Emergency Medical Technician, Red Cross Emergency Medical Response Instructor, Red Cross BLS CPR Instructor and American Heart Association BLS CPR Instructor.

This morning, we’re going to learn about the Map Your Neighborhood program and how it will serve you in the event of an emergency or disaster.

We have a couple of returning guests this morning, Dick Croxall and Ray Johnson from the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance.

Dick Croxall has worked with the Palos Verdes Concours for the last 16 years as a Class Manager and Exhibition Committee Chair.  He also volunteers at the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo and previously at the Petersen Automotive Museum.  He owns several collector cars and has run car events all over Southern California. Dick attended Cal Poly (Mechanical Engineering), where he was awarded Distinguished Alumni status in 2000 and elected to the Cal Poly Engineering Hall of Fame in 2014.  He is also an Alumnus of the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Business. 

Ray Johnson is the Chairman of the Palos Verdes Concours and he has been a volunteer for the Concours for over fifteen years. In prior years, he was the Co-Chairman of the Exhibition Committee, which is responsible for obtaining and selecting the exhibition cars. Ray retired in 2015 from the Aerospace Corporation where he was Vice-President of Space Launch Operations. 

This morning, our guests are going to tell us what attendees can expect at this year’s Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance taking place at Louis Zamperini Field on Sunday, October 1.

Our guest this morning is Dr. Judi Goldstone, M.D.

Dr. Judi is a medical weight loss and anti-aging expert, and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine.  She graduated cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles and received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she graduated at the top of her class. Our guest this morning is Karah Woesner, co-founder of Betty’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization benefiting Alzheimer’s disease research.

Karah and her brother Clint started the Foundation to raise money for Alzheimer’s research through music.  Their Grandma Betty’s connection to music stayed with her as she advanced in the stages of the disease. Even in the late stages, when she could no longer speak or perform basic physical functions, her eyes would still light up to a song and she would still tap her feet to a beat.

Betty’s Foundation hosts an annual roots music festival called ‘Remember the Music’ which will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Ernie Howlett Park in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary Celebration for the City of Rolling Hills Estates.

This ALL AGES music festival features roots inspired contemporary bands including Branches, Ruby Force, Elijah Ocean, The Hopeful Giants, and Earthworm Ensemble.

Attendees can set up blankets and chairs on the general admission lawn or listen in style under the VIP tent and enjoy local brews by Smog City, The Dudes', HopSaint, Yorkshire Square, and wine from Rebel Coast Winery.

Food will be available for purchase from Mesohungrytruck, Thai-Mex Cocina, The Grilled Cheese Truck, and Kona Ice. There will be arts and crafts, a silent auction, pony rides, petting zoo, hay jumping pit, equestrian events, and more.

 The City Celebration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the live music starts at 1:30 and will run through 7:30 p.m.

Chris is a Manhattan Beach native, attended Mira Costa High School and graduated from UC Berkeley where he majored in Human Biodynamics.

Chris has over 20 years of experience in the finance industry, working for multiple financial institutions as a residential and commercial mortgage broker. The 2008 mortgage recession impacted his business and finances so much that his home went into foreclosure. Since then, he has studied the laws of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and started his company Credit Furst. Credit Furst’s goal is to help heal businesses and individuals who are struggling with challenged credit, over burdensome student loans and other financial challenges which are limiting them from creating the life they desire.

When he’s not working, Chris is an avid snowboarder, wakeboarder and travel junkie.

Our guests this morning are LA Kings Radio Analyst Daryl Evans, and Vice President for Community Relations for the Kings Care Foundation, Jennifer Pope.

Now in his 19th season as the Kings Radio Analyst, Daryl Evans is heard on all club radio broadcasts on flagship station TalkRadio 790 and the Kings Radio Network.  Daryl played for the LA Kings from 1981-85 and for the past 11 seasons, has spearheaded a charitable giving program in which he has donated $100 for every Kings power play goal scored in both the regular season and the playoffs.  In addition to his role on the radio, Daryl is also an executive with the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, formerly serving as the facility’s General Manager, and he sits on the Board for the Kings Alumni Association. 

Jennifer Pope is the Vice President for Community Relations and the Kings Care Foundation for the LA Kings. Her responsibilities include execution of all fundraising events, programming and partnerships in the local community, and management of the LA Kings giving programs. In addition, she sits on the Board for the Hydrocephalus Association, the beneficiary of the LA Kings 5k/10k.Jennifer and her husband Matt have a son Charlie who has had 3 surgeries for his hydrocephalus, as well as a 2 year old daughter Sadie. 

This morning, we’re going to learn about the upcoming LA Kings Beach Cities 5K/10K Run/Walk taking place Saturday, September 9 benefiting the Hydrocephalus Association and some of the latest news on our South Bay Kings.
