  • Ayurveda and Vata Derangement Syndrome - Part 4
    - Some of the symptoms that we are seeing today are: low energy, sciatica, IT band, and low back pain. All of the above could be created due to an unhealthy psoas muscle.
    - Can fear, anxiety and stress be causing the psoas tension?
    - The psoas muscle is subtle, hidden deep in our body.
    - The psoas muscle is that which keeps our upper body and lower body functioning in harmony.
    - A lot of people are dealing with the fear of the unknown right now.
    - The fear of the unknown causes the psoas muscle to become unhealthy. - An unhealthy psoas muscle causes more fear. This creates a vicious cycle which can then be played off by the news media.
    - Are you over stretching? Are you making yourself over flexible?
    - Mobility is moving with strength and control within your own range of motion.
    - Boat to Reverse Table Top is a great mini-vini (mini-flow)that strengthens the psoas.
    - Spinning and seated rowing can aggravate the psoas.
    - If you do not have a standing desk, make one.
    - Modified Crescent Warrior s great for strength and mobility of the psoas muscle.
    - High knees in a slow and controlled way are anther great movement for the psoas.
    - According to Ayurveda you can do an elimination diet for your thoughts.
    - A subtle thought can very easily turn into gross reality if you give it energy.
    - Every time you have a thought that is upsetting, know that you have the ability to eliminate it should you choose to.
    - Choose your media wisely! And always choose to listen to this podcast!

  • Ayurveda and Vata Derangement Syndrome - Part 3
    - In this episode we discuss the "mobile and static" pair of Ayurvedic qualities
    - Mobile is one of the main qualities of the Vata Dosha
    - Static is one of the main qualities of the Kapha Dosha
    - Mobile is “we are happy, we are sad”, “we cry, we don’t”
    - Static is us remaining “even keeled”
    - The static quality is not the same as the dense quality
    - The static quality in the mind is about being able to adapt your thoughts and actions no matter what
    - The qualities are not to be taken literally, they are to always be considered within the particular context
    - When something bad happens and you don’t do anything about it, that is the static quality out of balance
    - The air element is associated with our thoughts
    - A constipated colon is connected to a constipated mind
    - When the air element (our thoughts) has nowhere to go due reduced space element everything in our mind is being exaggerated and taken out of proportion and eventually out of context
    - When everything is falling apart around us the best way to bring the static quality in our mind is counter-intuitive; it is through “negative visualization”
    - Positive visualization is creating an excess of the mobile quality in your mind through “false data” disguised as “hope”, in other words “up and downs”
    - History has taught us that anything that has happened before will probably happen again
    - Hope is a word that should be outlawed in the English language
    - Negative visualization is about the person taking control of their thoughts and actions
    - Negative visualization is not easy, it is simple
    - Negative visualization helps you conquer your fears
    - What you are hoping will happen, probably will not happen
    - Negative visualization helps you create laser focus which is what establishes the static quality in your mind
    - Having hope is not the same as having faith
    - Negative visualization helps you reestablish faith in a higher power and faith in yourself

  • Ayurveda and Vata Derangement Syndrome - Part 2
    - Talking about Vata derangement can cause Vata derangement
    - One of the 10 pairs of opposite qualities in Ayurveda is dry and oily / wet / unctuous
    - The dry quality is one of the main characteristics of the Vata dosha
    - Examples of the manifestation of the dry quality are dry skin, or cracked lips
    - Fear has the dry quality
    - The oily quality cultivates compassion and cohesiveness
    - The opposite of love is not hate, it is fear
    - Hate is a symptom of fear
    - The cause of every negative emotion is fear
    - Depending on every person’s weakness (kha vaigunya in Sanskrit) fear will manifest as a particular negative emotion
    - The movie reference that Tim is making is from the movie Striptease with Burt Reynolds and Demi Moore
    - Internal oleation is a lot more important than external oleation
    - Eating good nourishing fats is the best way for internal oleation
    - When our brain does not get the fat it needs, it will experience the fight, flight or freeze state
    - Some of the best olive oil in the world can be found at FreshPressedOliveOil
    - Get good fats such as lard, tallow and duck fat at UsWellnessMeats
    - Most oils other than coconut oil and olive oil can oxidize easily
    - Properly adding good fat to your daily diet will help you avoid the Vata - Derangement Syndrome
    - Ayurveda does not recommend eating raw foods
    - Weston Price #4 Principle of the 11 Wise Traditions: Eat some animal foods raw; cook most plant foods.
    - Good fat transforms to sustained energy, whereas carbohydrates transform to very short quick bursts of energy
    - Save your carbohydrates for later in the day
    - Think of fruit as dessert and combine it with good fat to balance the sugar effect
    - Our insulin is our Kapha regulator
    - The more stable our insulin is the more stability we experience in every aspect of our life
    - Don’t drink and drive no matter how much fat you put with your alcohol

  • Ayurveda and Vata Derangement Syndrome - Part 1
    - This series is brought to you by Jayne Laird, a great Yoga Teacher in St Pete, FL who wants to keep it real. Let us know if you would like to sponsor a series.
    - What causes the Vata Dosha to go out of balance
    - The Vata dosha is statistically speaking the first dosha to go out of balance
    - By the time we realize that the Vata dosha is out of balance, the issue has progressed too far and may manifest superficially as kapha out of balance
    - Vata is all about Space (Ether) and Air
    - Dosha in Sanskrit means that which can go wrong with you
    - Vata is inherently all about movement
    - The quality that dominates Vata is subtle (as opposed to the gross quality)
    - Anything that goes wrong with Vata can be too subtle for us to realize
    - The Space element is the container element and the most important of all elements because it is Space that determines the expression of the other elements
    - Having to stay home is taking the space element away from you which in turn can disturb the Vata dosha
    - The space element can be taken away from you physically and / or mentally
    - Every one is different and will be affected differently (kha vaigunya)
    - Having too much space can be as much of a problem as not having enough space
    - Fight, flight, freeze, flow - which one you experiencing right now?
    - Nature gives us space
    - YouTube channel for Forest Bathing Videos: asktimandvie
    - Email us your feedback
    - Non-structured meditation is a great practice to get you into structured meditation
    - Look at the forest through the trees and at the trees through the forest
    - To maintain the dynamic balance in our mind we need to maintain the balance between subtle observation and gross observation
    - Meditation helps you become one with the object of observation
    - May we all be well, adapt and thrive! - Tim and Vie

    • The dramatic shift of Yoga Alliance
    • Yoga Alliance did not use to acknowledge online training as accredited
    • Yes, we do not use Zoom
    • As a teacher, did you ever consider your ROI for the trainings you went through?
    • Yoga Alliance is a registration based association, it is not a certifying body
    • Think of Yoga Alliance as the “unofficial governing body of yoga"
    • You do not have to be registered with Yoga Alliance to teach yoga
    • Our next series will be “Stuff Yoga Teachers Say” sponsored by Jayne

Yoga Alliance Requirements for Online Yoga Teacher Trainings
    1. They must be on a Learning Management System (LMS) platform. Ours are.
    2. They must be completed by September 30, 2020. Ours will.
    3. The online training should have closed captions. Ours do.

Our 200-hr and 300-hr teacher trainings exceed YA requirements
    1. YA says that online training can be perfumed in a group format. Ours are private, one on one.
    2. Our training platform offers you unlimited lifetime access to the training material.
    3. You receive 30 half hours of private training (for the 300-hr) or 20 half hours (for the 200-hr) throughout the time, to make sure you are getting the most out of your online training.
    4. You have unlimited email access to get answers for any and all of your questions during the training.
    5. You receive three months of private mentorship after you complete the training in order to help you successfully implement everything you have learned in your professional and / or personal yogic / ayurvedic life

Tuition of our Yoga Alliance Teacher Trainings
    • 200-hr tuition is $1,203.00 if you register by June 1st, 2020.
    • 300-hr tuition is $1,803.00 if you register by June 1st, 2020

    Future Considerations

    • Will studios be able to afford to reduce their class size to meet the new requirements?
    • And will studios be able to follow the “disinfecting” compliance requirements?
    • Is there possibly going to be another "us against them" yoga gang mentality? This time between studios who open and studios who are staying closed.
    • History has taught us that patterns replicate.
    • A lot of yoga studios will not reopen.
    • It will take a strong willed yoga teacher to go against the herd mentality.
    • You are going to see more outdoor yoga, and boutique style yoga with a lot more student oriented care.
    • Even though there is going to be a lot more yoga teachers, it is the end of the era of the rockstar yoga teacher.
    • To adapt is to thrive.
