Hey friends! Welcome back to the On Fire Empire Podcast. If you caught last month’s episode, you’ll know we’re presenting all episodes in video format every month.
A lot of us are talking about our goals and our objectives for 2021. The other thing that I hear about is a bit of hesitation from our women leaders and influencers.
Are you second-guessing yourself – asking questions like “Can I be that bold with my goals?” “Can I really be that audacious with my goals?” … and a little bit of self-doubt creeps in. That self-doubt goes to a whole new level; where it stops you from taking action. A lot of that is driven by this phenomenon that’s been around for a long time.
And we all suffer from it in one shape or form. It’s called Imposter Syndrome. Today, I’m interviewing my longtime friend and my former colleague in the law, retired judge Sherrill Ellsworth. We’re talking about Imposter Syndrome, women needing to believe in themselves, think about those things that hold us back, and embracing those hurdles head-on. Sherrill is a past presiding judge of the Riverside County Superior Court. Over the years I even appeared in front of her. Oh yes, we’ve gone toe to toe… or bench to bench if in the courtroom. Later on, after she retired, we became business partners.
First as an attorney and then becoming elevated to the bench, she was one of the youngest bench officers ever. She served nearly 20 years! Today we’re talking about Imposter Syndrome. I think you’re really going to enjoy what Judge Ellsworth has to say because we’ve both been there and we both overcome some serious hurdles. She’s brilliant, very insightful and I know you’re going to love her.

Hello my friends! Welcome back to another episode of the On Fire Empire Podcast. It’s been a while since our last episode…. but like all good things, they’re worth the wait! This episode and all others that follow with be brought to you in both audio and video.
Today I brought my old campaign sign in from when I ran for city council (and won!) back in …well… just a few short years ago. Today, I have Lori Stone joining me in the studio. Lori is the sister of former California Senator Jeff Stone – and now she’s running for elected office. I also have Rachael Bennett, Esq. chatting with me about the interview. We reminisce about what Rachael experienced during the time I ran and how that affected her career. We’re talking women in leadership, social experiments in homelessness (Lori learned first hand what it was to be a homeless woman on the street for a day), and a few surprises you won’t want to miss.

Hi, friends! Welcome to another episode of the On Fire Empire Podcast. During these challenging times with COVID-19, where our day-to-day has been disrupted, and we’re doing things in a whole new way as we work through this worldwide pandemic we thought we’d change it up for the podcast. We’re bringing you both audio and video.
During these times, there is something that continues to happen at home. It’s a topic a lot of people don’t want to talk about, but we need to talk about it. That is the topic of abuse and domestic violence. More than ever with people sheltering in place, many folks who are the victims of controller abusers are now isolated and completely locked into place with that abuser.
Whether you are one of those folks who are experiencing domestic violence, control and/or any other form of abuse within your home, or your children are, or if you’re a friend, or family, or a neighbor and you might be hearing things, or you’re aware that there have been some problems with someone you love in the past, this episode is for YOU.
In today’s episode, I’m bringing you my interview with Katie Gilbertson. Katie is phenomenal! She works within the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office in their Victim Services Unit, overseeing what we call the S.A.F.E. Family Justice Centers. S.A.F.E. is a non-profit organization here in southern California that partners with our courts. S.A.F.E. stands for Safe Alternatives For Everyone.
S.A.F.E. is a domestic violence education, prevention, and intervention agency. I’ve known and worked with them for years and they are amazing people, as are those within our District Attorney’s Office. You’re going to hear from Katie today as we talk about this issue and what this season of domestic violence looks like. Katie and I talk about what’s happening in homes, what you can do if you are a victim of domestic violence, or if you’re concerned that it may be escalating within your home, and what you can do as a loved one, as a family member, as a concerned neighbor, and as a friend.

Well, hello Empire builders. Welcome back to the On Fire Empire Podcast. Today, I’m bringing you PART TWO of my interview with District Attorney, Ivy Fitzpatrick. If you listened to the last episode, which you’ll want to do if you have not, Ivy Fitzpatrick and I were talking in detail about how to live an extraordinary life in the midst of chaos, and we certainly are in some chaotic times here dealing with this COVID-19 worldwide pandemic.
Where we left off, Ivy was talking about the different tools that she used to handle a major life challenge that was as disruptive if not more, and on an ongoing basis, than what we’re dealing with this pandemic. I left off asking Ivy what kinds of people she surround herself with in order to successfully navigate a very serious chronic medical condition that she’s got, and so you’re going to hear Ivy kick that off. But the rest of the interview gets really interesting, because we are discussing the concept of redemptive pain and how to use that redemptive pain, not only to live an extraordinary life, but to also serve others.
"This is Part 2 of Kelly's interview with Ivy Fitzpatrick, a career District Attorney in California who practices law and leads, despite some serious health challenges. In the last episode, Kelly and Ivy talked about how to live an extraordinary life in the midst of chaos - so appropriate during this COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. The conversation continues . . ."

When was the last time you were bored? What is the sensation you get when you’re bored? It is unpleasant? Do you feel restless? Is it a lonely feeling? Do you feel unproductive when you’re bored out of your mind?
Did you know that this thing called boredom is actually a superpower of the most creative minds, the most effective problem-solvers, and the most successful business leaders?
If you haven’t guessed by now BOREDOM is our topic today…and you’ll want to listen to this week’s episode because this conversation is anything but boring.

Have you ever had someone talk smack about you or your business? Was it justified? Was it just a bunch of misinformation designed to get under your skin and make you look bad?
Most of the time, when someone talks smack – it doesn’t rise to the level of defamation – the type of smack talk you can sue for…but there is still something you CAN do about it. Yes, you can consider lawsuits (this is often how we hear about these situations at our law firm…people want to pick my legal brain about it).
But we’re not going to talk about the legal aspects of this today. We’re going to get into the real practical ways to overcome a damaged reputation (or what you THINK is a damaged reputation) – 3 ways to deal with it…which apply to every situation imaginable.

It’s been a LOOOONG hiatus since our last episode. So here we are… back for another season of On Fire Empire – and this time we have a new book to share! More on that later.
It’s Thanksgiving this week and for some people, it’s a sad time of the year. This might be you. Or someone you love – if someone you know is going through something – then PLEASE share this episode. It may be exactly what they need – just in the nick of time.
This might be the first holiday after any number of things that have a knack of turning the world upside down for some – a failed marriage – lost loved one or family member – financial crisis – you feel alone. When you feel hopeless your vision is clouded – and you can’t envision the future. You feel there is no future – and that feeling leads to the feeling of helplessness.
Maybe it’s time you ask… a different QUESTION. Are you ready? Listen up!
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Paul Bayne – my friend of 35 years…a special man, who asked a different question.

In Part 2 of the “Gossip” Empowerment Series. Jose and I tackle 3 more reasons (and the “hows”) gossip disempowers you.
Last week, we talked about how your credibility goes out the window when you gossip…and that your “reputation score” is the new currency. Reputations can be pretty easy to damage.
