Welcome to our kickoff episode in the new Season 3 of the On Fire Empire Podcast.
We’re calling this season “Legally Speaking – the Law Stuff You Can Use”. We’re also inviting special guests this season to share their wisdom …and maybe a story or two, about the law, and you might be surprised…how they apply to your life.
These episodes are pretty meaningful… because not only are the topics super relatable to our everyday lives, but with many of them… I’m bringing you some resources that you can use in your business and your personal life – things that will really open your eyes and give you a new perspective.
So today, we’re talking about Preparing for Divorce: and Choosing Your Inner Circle. So… What do I mean by Inner Circle? Well sometimes… believe it or not, your family and friends may not be the best advisors during your divorce. And even though it may be tough to go through without your besties, they could be the reason your divorce can go longer than it needs to, or… the reason you have unnecessary drama back at home. The most successful people have an awesome inner circle of confidants and advisors that are curated for the best possible outcome.
Are you ready for season 3? Let’s get started.

Today we have an audio presentation of a video I did last year from our “Kelly off the Cuff” series. You can watch those and other videos on YouTube. I’m talking to you about the concept of “Peace at Any Price”. As we say in the settlement & negotiation & mediation world “Peace at Any Price, is No Peace at All”.
What am I getting at here? Are you so anxious to settle a conflict, that you are willing to give away the farm because you just want peace…an ending to the conflict? I see this all the time… especially in divorce, marital conflict and business dispute situations. I’m going to share examples and give you the tools – to work through the discomfort of negotiation.
Tweetables:
“Sometimes your discomfort is worth working through in order to get a better result instead of selling out in the moment.” — Kelly Bennett [0:02:21]
“Work through that discomfort so you can get to the finish line in a way that keeps your dignity and your financial future intact.” — Kelly Bennett [0:08:54]

Today I’m giving you a unique look into what goes on in the inner workings of our law firm. You get to eavesdrop on senior attorney Kelly Bennett…yours truly… mentoring associate attorney Rachael Bennett a few years ago, on a sticky situation.
What happens when you’re going through a divorce, but still living under the same roof? Well if there are kids involved, it can be problematic, especially when something so simple could mean the difference between calm and stormy waters.

Hey, it’s Kelly and welcome back to another episode of the On Fire Empire podcast. Well, this is the last episode in our Season 2 here before we head into a brief break but don’t worry, I’ve got a few ‘tweener episodes that you’ll really enjoy, in between while we get ready to kick of Season 3.
Last year, I released a video on how to court proof your life by building in some tools like mandatory mediation or arbitration clauses into your settlement agreements and your contracts and some other nifty tips on how to stay out of court. I know many of you are business leaders and business owners, so this is something that I think is really valuable for you.
Conflict is the fastest way to lose money in your business if it’s not mastered and managed. Today, I want to share an encore presentation of that audio, right here on the On Fire Empire. It’s a perfect segue to follow up last week’s episode and give you even more high powered tools to worry less about things that you can control.

Is there worry in your journey? Do you wake up in the night with your mind racing, worrying about the future or do you spend time frequently reliving past mistakes where your mind replays the past like a movie that’s just stuck on rewind? Does it take up a significant amount of your mental and your emotional energy? Making it hard for you to just relax and enjoy your life?

Worry and anxiety: they’re one of our biggest distractions from living in and enjoying the present moment. Whenever I indulge these distractions I find that Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote is so true. Because worry and anxiety, those things just don’t allow me to live the moments of my daily life deeply. Isn’t deep living really where joy and significance live? Join me today for these four steps to disrupting worry and anxiety.
Tweetables:
“The first step here in disrupting worry is to get yourself thinking about the issue in terms of what you can control about it and/or what you have direct influence over.” — Kelly Bennett [0:07:52.1]
“A lot of times, the things we worry about are built up in our minds as monsters.” — Kelly Bennett [0:08:53.1]
“Every second spent worrying about a past or future moment, distracts us from what is important in the here and now.” — Greg McKeown [0:22:15.1]
“Instead of wasting another minute of your time and another minute of your energy on worrying about that thing, do yourself a favor and work the worry out.” — Kelly Bennett [0:10:24.1]

Last week, we listened and unpacked Jami Buchanan’s journey through Beautiful Cancer and how Jami decided to take control of her bladder cancer diagnosis, apply her strategic business approaches to it, and take charge of her own inner circle which included helping her own son work through his deepest fears of possibly losing his mom.
Because of Jami’s courage to have that difficult conversation with her son, he was able to make the shift from negativity to her supportive superhero. Now, as I said last time, Jami wrote a book about her experience called Beautiful Cancer and we talked about how to get your hands on your own copy of this great book. I’m going to include the link HERE. Check it out so you can see how you can get your own copy or get a copy of this fantastic book for a friend.

On today’s episode, we’re heading into Part 2 of our interview with Hung Le. If you listened to last week’s episode, you know that Hung Le is an Associate VP and head of the Registrar’s office at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Episode 14 and this episode are about Hung’s totally amazing story of his journey to America as an 11-year-old refugee from South Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam war, and the many hurdles he overcame. As Hung shares his inspirational story, you’ll hear how GRATITUDE became a central theme in his approach to life.
Today Hung and Kelly discuss the recent fatal wildfires in Southern California that nearly burned all of Malibu down, and the simultaneous mass shooting that occurred at a college student hangout in Thousand Oaks, just a few miles from the Pepperdine Campus. A beloved Pepperdine freshman lost her life in the shooting tragedy. Hung and his wife Corinne, and many executives in the University’s leadership were instrumental in caring for a very hurting community and the parents of the young student, Alaina Housley, who lost her life. You’ll hear Hung’s take on life when bad things happen to good people – he was right on the front lines there at Pepperdine.

Well hello and welcome back. I’m your host, Kelly Bennett and this is the second episode in my two part miniseries called Forgiveness, the Journey Back to Wholeness.
In this miniseries on the power of forgiveness, you’ll discover that mastering the art of forgiveness will have a big impact on both your productivity and your business relationships because leveraging forgiveness, it gets a whole lot of unproductive stuff out of your way and it improves your personal and your work relationships.
Now, if you haven’t listened to Episode 12, which is the first part of this series, I highly encourage you to go back and enjoy it. Because in part one, we shared three very compelling reasons to embrace the notion of forgiveness. It really makes the case for why forgiveness is such a good idea. I know you won’t want to miss it and it will make this episode even that more meaningful to you.
Today, I’m getting super practical, we’re talking about exactly how we go about this business of forgiving. Today, we’re going to take a look at who it is that we forgive and then I’m going to outline what it is we actually do when we forgive. And then finally, we’ll look at what we don’t do when we forgive.
Tweetables:
“The business of forgiving, it’s not applicable to everyone, that’s for sure. Because forgiveness is a well thought out deliberate act. It’s really a choice.” — Kelly Bennett [0:05:42.8]
“I would argue, it’s not fair to you to continue to live in pain at that person’s hand.” — Kelly Bennett [0:08:30.2]
“I don’t want you to confuse forgiving with welcoming someone back to the relationship or back to the fold. What we mean by forgiveness is something that is truly an inside job.” — Kelly Bennett [0:10:54.9]
