Warriors win NBA Championship 2021-22 season 103-90 against Celtics

The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions once again, topping the Boston Celtics 103-90 on Thursday night for their fourth title in the last eight seasons.

Stephen Curry scored 34 points and was named the NBA Finals MVP as the Warriors claimed the franchise’s seventh championship overall. And this one completed a journey like none other, after a run of five consecutive finals, then a plummet to the bottom of the NBA, and now a return to greatness just two seasons after having the league’s worst record.

For Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, it’s a fourth championship. The first three rings came in 2015, 2017 and 2018, when Golden State was dynastic and made five consecutive trips to the finals.

Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 34 points but Jayson Tatum finished with just 13, shooting just 6 of 18 from the field. Boston also committed 22 turnovers, dropping to 1-8 this postseason when committing 16 or more.

It was just the fifth defeat in 22 title-series appearances for Boston, which turned its season around to have a chance at this crown. Boston was 25-25 after 50 games, then went on a tear to get to the finals and nearly claim what would have been just the franchise’s second championship since 1986.

Stephanie McMahon was named interim CEO and interim Chairwoman. She’s the daughter of Vince McMahon, the company’s chief brand officer as well as a former wrestler.

The WWE board of directors began investigating McMahon in April and discovered he paid $3 million to cover up an affair with a former employee, according to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal.

Cowboys, Mike McCarthy fined for holding too physical practicesFor the second straight year, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has been fined for violating rules regarding offseason practices, according to owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

McCarthy was fined $100,000, and the Cowboys were docked an organized team activity for 2023 for holding practices that were deemed too physical by the NFL. The organization was not fined, unlike in 2021.

If the Warriors are going to be the team to take a 3-2 lead, they’re going to need some guys to step up around Steph Curry, who has been phenomenal throughout the series. Curry’s 43-point performance in Game 4 was a masterpiece, but Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole need to do more if the Warriors are going to win their fourth ring under Steve Kerr.

On the other side, the Celtics’ success might very well depend on their ability to slow down Curry — something they haven’t accomplished so far. Perhaps trapping him and forcing the ball out of his hands is the way to go. It’s a strategy that’s at least worth a try. Also, Boston needs to take care of the ball. The Celtics are just 1-6 this postseason in games where they turn the ball over 15 or more times. Conversely, they’re 13-2 when they limit their turnovers to 14 or fewer.

Thompson injuries taken away some of his speed. Curry will be Curry. Poole must step it up more. The end is near for the Warriors.

Warriors’ Steph Curry says he’s ‘going to play’ in Game 4 despite unspecified injuryGolden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is expected to play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday.

Curry’s status was up in the air after he suffered an injury late in the fourth quarter of Game 3 when Boston Celtics forward Al Horford rolled on Curry’s leg as the two dove for a loose ball.

Curry lay on the floor for a few minutes, yelling in pain, before getting up with a limp. He was still walking gingerly about an hour and a half after the game when he entered and exited the news conference room.

But on Thursday, Curry appeared to be walking just fine. The Warriors didn’t hold a team practice Thursday, instead using the day as a rest and recovery day. Only low-minute players got on-court work done.

“[I got] about 10½ hours of sleep, a couple dunks in the ice bucket and that’s about it for now,” Curry said about what treatment he had been doing over the previous 12 hours. “Then take advantage of today and tomorrow to get completely ready for the game. Get as much recovery and healing as possible and understand how important Game 4 is. I’m excited about the opportunity.”

Curry compares the injury he suffered in Game 3 to a less severe version of the foot sprain he suffered against the Celtics back in March, when Marcus Smart rolled on his leg in another loose-ball situation and he missed the final month of the regular season.

Hornets to interviews Mike D’Antoni & Kenny AtkinsonCharlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is expected to meet with two finalists for the franchise’s coaching job this week, including Mike D’Antoni, sources told ESPN.

Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson is set to meet with Jordan on Tuesday, and D’Antoni’s visit is expected later in the week, sources said.

Atkinson and D’Antoni have already had two meetings with management, including with general manager Mitch Kupchak, in the Hornets’ process, sources said.

French prospect Rayan Rupert to play in New ZealandFrance’s Rayan Rupert — one of the most promising young wing players in the world — is signing a deal to join the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian national basketball league next season, sources told ESPN.
