A phenomenal leader, father, husband and son, Drew Henson, former two-sport professional athlete joined Hoot for this amazing interview. But before that, he shared time at the quarterback position at the University of Michigan with the G.O.A.T., the greatest-of-all-time, Tom Brady. But, as you will hear during the conversation, Drew thinks my criticism of Tom is fair along with Eli, Peyton, and Blonde, when I proposed that as white influencers and ambassadors of the most popular sport in the United States, they haven't done enough to use their platform which could "exponentially" do so much for people of color. 

He credits his parents for helping him see the world the way he does as well as a major reason why he was able to accomplish the historic feat along with others like Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson of playing Major League Baseball (for the New York Yankees) and professional football (for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL). Susan Summons joined Hoot for an incredible conversation that took us back in time to 1957 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to present day Miami, Florida. And during these 65 years, Susan has exemplified extraordinary in every endeavor she has ever partaken in from the time she was playing against the boys on the streets in Boston to her military days in the United States Army to her playing days at Roxbury Community College to Lamar University to becoming one of the traiblazers of the Original "W", the WBL, the Women's Basketball League. Her passion and light have shined down on and through people for her entire life, especially the young women at Roxbury Community College and Miami Dade Community College where she served as the Head Women's Basketball Coach and Associate Professor for nearly 40 years and continues to inspire people all around the world as a motivational speaker.

Joanne P. McCallie, (CoachP4Life.org) is one of the most inspiring and incredible people I've ever met on this show or in real life. She joined Coach Val (Whiting) and I for this polarizing and powerful episode to discuss her journey from when she was a young brat cussing up a storm when she would miss jump shots while her dad, a navy pilot would rebound for her while in Coach K's gym, illegally. She shares how she went to Auburn University as a Graduate Assistant sight unseen and how at age 26, became one of the youngest head women's basketball coaches at the Division I level in the history of the United States. But it was four years into her Maine journey where today you will find out the rest of her story about her initial diagnosis and denial of bi-polar disorder to where she is today as an incredible,  inspiring, and courageous firestarter, author, mental health leader, speaker, cancer survivor and virago; a true warrior in every sense of the word. I cannot thank Coach Val enough for her endless love and support and for also being so transparent about her own journey navigating bi-polar disorder and thoughts of suicide.

Remember, you are not alone when it comes to mental health. There's no difference as to whether you need blood pressure medication or high-cholesterol medication or medicine because you are bi-polar to help balance out the chemicals in your brain. We need to continue to normalize mental health and demystify the stigmas that accompany them on and off the court, especially in the black and brown community.

Michael Montgomery II joined Hoot in The Sports Deli Podcast where he shares his life story from his early days in Carthage, Texas to the NFL to life after football.  He was inspired by his mother, a legend in her own right - one of the first to ever play professional basketball in the United States when she as a member of the Nebraska Wranglers of the original W, the WBL, the Women's Basketball League - the first ever women's professional league in the history of the United States. She was also a college coach after her playing days we're over and it is from her that Michael learned to love people and treat others with kindness and respect no matter what. He discusses his NFL experience as well as shedding light on the current state of the NFL and it's lack of black and brown head coaches to financial literacy to his acting career. He talks about draft day and how he almost didn't get drafted, how he almost died while at Texas A&M because of a rare heart disease, and what it was like to play in Lambeau Field in Green Bay, for the first time. Kenny Lofton, future Hall-of-Famer joined Hoot in the Sports Deli for this incredible interview. It all started with his incredibly inspiring grandmother who blind, raised him. It was because of her that Kenny had a unique understanding of being organized, detail-oriented and trusting your sixth sense. A teammate of Steve Kerr in college at Arizona, he always knew Steve would be a phenomenal NBA player and coach not just because of the incident at Arizona State where the fans crossed every line when they spoke about his father who was murdered in Beirut in 1984 while visiting as the President of American University but because he had an incredible basketball IQ, could shoot the absolute living daylights out of the ball, was a coach on the court and had a unique "Why" that motivated him then and still does to this day. Kenny is very disappointed in Major League Baseball and although he expressed gratitude for the game that allowed him to play the game he loved for 17 years and acknowledged all of those from Jackie Robinson to numerous others that paved the way for him like Rod Carew and Curt Flood, he shares why he thinks Major League Baseball still doesn't get it. Kenny was very kind to listen to me rant about the lack of white allies when it comes to social injustice and systemic racism, talks about the metaverse, why he thinks the Cleveland Guardians should never have changed their name, and you don't want to miss our very famous rapid fire, "This or That" segment of the podcast.

Tadd Fujikawa has always shown himself to be a resilient spirit. From the time he was born (1 pound 15 ounces) - yes you read that correctly (3 months prematurely) to qualifying for the 2006 U.S. Open, the youngest golfer ever to do so at aged 15 to announcing in 2018 that he was gay, the first male professional golfer to do so to his activism to now reinventing himself as a pickleballer and professional golfer. He loves to cook. He is on a mission to help people in the LGBTQ+ community be comfortable with who they are and in Tadd's words, "can’t wait for the day we all can live without feeling like we’re different and excluded. A time when we can love the way we want to love and not be ashamed. We are all human and equal after all".
