In mens' college soccer, the University of Vermont Catamounts' hopes for playing in the NCAA tournament are now reduced to waiting to find out if they'll receive an at-large bid. UVM would have preferred to get in by winning the America East tournament but that possibility was dashed yesterday when the Cats were knocked out in the semi-finals by the Albany Great Danes 2-0 in upstate New York.

Among the slew of problems the Boston Bruins have had early in this NHL season, their anemic power play has stood out as one of the worst. Heading into last night's home game against the Buffalo Sabres the Bruins had scored fewer power play goals than just two other NHL teams, which is why their 4-0 victory over the Sabres was welcomed not just for the W, but because three of the four goals scored came with the man advantage.

NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning torched the Philadelphia Eagles secondary for four touchdowns yesterday, and three times the Giants defense was able to turn back the Eagles on fourth down attempts, but it was still a nail-biter in pulling out a 28-23 win in East Rutherford yesterday.

The Boston Bruins didn't score much on their just-completed three game road trip, but they had Tuukka Rask back in net, and despite winning by the thinnest of margins in each game, win they did, picking up the maximum six out of available six points, punctuated by last night's 4-3 shootout victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Chicago Cubs have won the World Series for the first time in 108 years, beating the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in Cleveland last night, news which is in and of itself epic.
