As the recall edges closer to the ballot, new speculation has arose over whether a Democratic candidate will enter the race for Governor. While no one has officially announced plans, some names have been swirling as possible contenders.

Protests and rallies have been held across the Bay Area decrying the rise in violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. This comes in the wake of the shooting in Atlanta in which six of the eight people killed were women of Asian descent.

Backers of the effort to recall Governor Newsom say they've gathered 2.1 million signatures. The deadline passed last night at 5PM and the signatures will now be subject to a verification process by county registrars.

It comes as the country reels from another incident of deadly violence against Asian Americans.
