Today I got to talk with Mark Deming, the Chief Marketing Officer at NRS, as he shares the story of NRS and founder Bill Parks. Bill was a business and finance professor who took a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon that changed his life. After falling in love with rafting and the river life, Bill took $2000 of his own money, his business ideas and bought some military surplus to create the birth of Northwest River Supply in his garage. Bill went on to create specific products that became the industry standard within paddle sports. His business strategies and ideals were ahead of his time as he created a fun and friendly work environment. Eventually transitioning to a fully employee owned company. As NRS is celebrating its 50th anniversary we look back not only the success but how NRS continues to look forward and ask "What can do done from here?" I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Mark and hearing the full story of NRS, and whether you are interested in paddlesports, business, or giving back, this will be an episode you wont want to miss.
