I Choose My Words Carefully Because What I Say…Is Who I Become:
I split my life coaching business with a personal training business, and I was attending a continuing education fitness class from a gentleman by the name of Lawrence Biscontini. I got a lot of great knowledge from him in how to run group exercises classes more efficiently and how to practice and prepare yourself before you ever step foot into a group exercise environment. But the greatest thing I took away from him, was a simple idea on how to end my group classes, or in fact how to end any meeting with another individual.
If you are like me, you might allow your worth to be determined by what someone else has said about you or what you've done in your life. And at the end of a class I used to ask people, "how was the class, was it good enough, did I play the music you liked, are you happy…blah blah blah, and all these groveling questions I would ask people. But what I was really asking is, "did you like me, was I good enough, and was I acceptable enough for you," and subconsciously I'm sure I was really asking the question "am I worthy?"
And what Lawrence taught me was...

Strong Within Weekly Affirmation Podcast June 2019 Week 2
Every Day I Do Something Better Than The Day Before
"In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact. " Les Brown
I don't like to call people out for behaving badly when they don't know any different, but today I feel we must call ourselves out if we are to grow. So I am speaking to you, and I am speaking to me. I am speaking about being ordinary, normal, and thus making ourselves weak.
There are people who are comfortable with staying the same because they've told themselves that change is hard, it's painful, and maybe that they can't change. And this message will be lost to those folks, but it is not our job to change those who don't want to change…it is only our life mission to change and BE A change in this world for those who are wanting and willing to change.
My good friend Wes Hall and I were talking on the phone, and he said something to the effects of this— "there are two types of people in the world. Those who want to be impacted, and those who want to be impactful."

I Focus My Energy On What I Can Control
"In our personal and professional lives, we are constantly hit with one adversity after the other, most of which we have no control over. But the four things we have total control over is how we react, how we adapt, how we breathe, and how we take action." ~Diamond Dallas Page
I was teaching a spin class the other night, and usually I'll tell a goofy joke or be silly during class. Yes, I work to push the class participants hard, and to work on getting to know their body, I still like to be silly from time to time to lighten up the mood.
In a class I challenge them to learn what their body feels like in their comfort zones, and then what it feels like to give just a little more—what it feels like to add one to ten percent more to that comfort zone.
I have them close their eyes at times to feel the ride, to feel their body, to open their mind to what's happening and not just going into autopilot. It's my hope that they begin teaching the subconscious to communicate with them, it's my hope that their autopilot doesn't just go to sleep but learns to communicate with them when they are veering from their goals...

I Wake Up Each Morning Excited To Face The Day
"The word 'romance,' according to the dictionary, means excitement, adventure, and something extremely real. Romance should last a lifetime." ~Billy Graham
I like that quote, which got me thinking what are we romancing in our lives?
I used to say I'm not a morning person. I would wake up feeling tired, that I needed more sleep, and that I wished I could go back to bed. And I think a lot of us feel this way. We live in a time where we're more sleep deprived than ever, and sure we can blame all the reasons around us in why we are so tired and not able to wake up. For example, take technology, we could say that it's tv or our phones that are messing with our sleep patterns and that the blue light from the screen is messing with our eyes and confusing our brains making them think it's not night time.
And I won't deny the studies that have looked into this, I'm sure there's plenty of truth to the idea of how the screens affect us in negative ways. However, I think it can be easy to blame someone or something else for the problems and negative patterns in our lives. I believe there's a bigger culprit to the negative patterns we find ourselves in…and that culprit is the habits we choose to partake in.

The Strong Within Affirmation Podcast May 2019 week 4
The Resistance I Incur Strengthens Me
I saw a quote a while back that I wrote on a piece of paper because it moved me, and I'm pretty sure I've used it in a previous podcast. I had written in my notes that it came from the sacred spiritual text of the Bhagavad Gita. I was looking to find the exact translation to make sure I had the quote right, but I could only find parts of it, but it really doesn't matter the exact definition as these words can be found in all the sacred texts that have ever been written. And the quote I wrote down said:
"You should do your work with all your heart with no thoughts of reward and then you will achieve external happiness."
I know in my life I lived it by making sure people knew what I was doing. I had to make sure they knew I was lending that hand or by making sure I had the right answer to give to them to help them out in their predicament. And there's nothing wrong with wanting, or letting, people know that you are doing good things for them. Where the problem came in for me was that—I HAD to have them know. My worth was wrapped up in others acknowledging and accepting me. I had to be seen as the good guy, so maybe I could feel like the good guy.
I wasn't inauthentic in wanting to help others, but my helping hand had an underlying subconscious message—and the messages was that I believed happiness had to be given to me. I believed that to be worthy I had to be seen by others....

I Am Fulfilling My Purpose, As I Allow What I Want To Come To Me
"Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals, and values are in balance."~Brian Tracy
A few weeks ago I did the affirmation "I Am Fulfilling My Purpose."
And after listening to it, I was kicking myself because I thought it could have been more powerful; but instead of getting upset I thought why don't I just make a continuation of it. And so, the original affirmation of "I Am fulfilling My Purpose" is being extended to "As I Allow What I Need To Come To Me."
When I talk about manifesting or the law of attraction, which states that likened things are attracted to likened things, a lot of people think I am saying that all you have to do is to wish, or to hope hard enough, and by doing that then things will find a way to you. But that's not exactly what I'm claiming, I actually am talking about making the impossible possible...

My Fears Are A Mirror Of My Potential
"Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid, one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory." ~Douglas MacArthur
You are going to question your talent, you may even question your worth…who am I to think I can better than him or her or that person who is amazing at doing what I want to do? But it's not about being better than them, it's not even about being in the same league as them; it's about being in your own league, with your own stories, with your own experiences. It's about being genuine in every breath taken and given, in every word spoken, and in the actions you etch into this world no matter how much fear you feel when making your mark...

Strong Within Weekly Affirmation:
I Am Fulfilling My Purpose In Life
"Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they're yours."~Richard Bach
I know my place in the universe and I am fulfilling my purpose. I believe that I was put on this Earth for a specific reason. I know that reason, and I do my best each day to live my life at the highest level.
I am confident that I know my reason for existing. Each day gives me the opportunity to be ecstatically alive. I take time to appreciate each moment in my life, and I am grateful for the good fortune bestowed upon me.
I build my life around my purpose. Since I know my purpose, I find it easier to make decisions. My decisions and values align with my purpose perfectly. I choose my friends, hobbies, and employment from that purpose to boost my happiness and capacity for life.
Everything I do and each person I meet is part of my destiny.

Strong Within Affirmation: I Am Everything I Need To Be
"Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again." ~James Cook
This past weekend, Easter was being celebrated. And in the O'Hearn household, my mother went to go pick up Grandma from the assisted living facility where she has resided for the past year or so. As we sat down to have dinner together, my mother told us about the Easter Egg hunt and grandma's place.
The caretakers of the residents had hidden eggs all around the main lobby to have an Easter egg hunt, and my mom said before anyone else could participate— one resident had gone around and picked up all the eggs so no one else had a chance to get into the fun. And while we laughed at this, and felt sad that this one person had taken all the fun out of it for the other residents, it got me thinking about how we ALL live our lives like this lady.
We live a life full of fear that what we want will be taken away from us. And so, what we do to balance out our franticness and fear based thinking is to make sure that we take the eggs and desires of other people's dreams and lives first. And thus what we do is put our attention on taking from others so we won't lose what is ours or we hope to be ours.
Which if you think about it is ludicrous because you put more of your focus on other people instead of yourself.

Strong Within Weekly Affirmation Podcast Episode 604 Thank You
"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough." ~Meister Eckhart
I have spent a good portion of my life apologizing. And I think it's good to be humbled and apologize when we feel we have been wrong or wronged someone…but I spent most of my life apologizing for the wrong things. I apologized for not being enough or for being too much. I apologized if I thought someone didn't like me, I apologized if I was truthful in letting someone know something hard, I apologized for never being the person I thought others wanted me to be, but most of my apologies were silent in my mind as I kept punishing myself for never being whatever enough of what I thought I should be.
I lived this front of trying to please everyone else, trying to make everyone like and accept me, trying to be cordial and not stir up any issues even if they needed to be said…because it was better not to hurt someone than to tell them the truth that others may not necessarily say. And by doing it made me weak, because it was never about putting the true most authentic me in to the world…it was about covering up who I was. The mask that I put on to protect myself originally became the thing that was hurting me the most, as it created shame within myself thinking I wasn't or could never be good enough for others…and for myself...
