To my girls,
I donât say this enough, so Iâm saying it here.
Thank you for seeing me.
Thank you for noticing when I go quiet instead of waiting for me to ask for help, because yâall already know Iâm probably not going to. đ Thank you for showing up in the unglamorous seasons. The boring Tuesdays. The moments nobody takes pictures of. The times when Iâm not my funniest, strongest, prettiest, most put-together self.
You still see me.
And lately, Iâve been realizing just how much that means to me.
So this episode is a love letter to my girlsâbut if youâre listening and youâre not one of âmy girlsâ yet, come on in. Youâre welcome here too. Because this conversation is really about something bigger: what it means to love and be loved by another woman when weâre grown.
Not the highlight-reel version of friendship.
Iâm talking about the Waiting to Exhale kind. The kind where nobody is perfect. Everybody gets it wrong sometimes. Life gets messy. People change. And somehow, the love still holds.
We talk about what it means to actually be a good friend as an adult woman. Reciprocity without keeping score. Being emotionally safe with each other. Celebrating your friendâs wins without making them a measurement of your own life. Telling the truth without being cruel. Loving somebody through an ugly season without enabling her. Knowing when to set a boundary. And learning that sometimes a friendship ending doesnât mean it wasnât real.
But I also had to turn the mirror on myself.
Because itâs easy to ask, âDo I have good friends?â
Itâs a whole different question to ask, âAm I a good friend?â
And then thereâs the part Iâm still learning: how to let somebody take care of me.
Iâm so used to carrying my own shit that sometimes I donât even realize Iâm struggling until somebody who knows me well enough notices first. And when my friends show up for me without me asking, it reminds me that being loved isnât always about what you can give back.
Sometimes you just have to let yourself receive it.
So if thereâs a woman in your life who sees you like that, send her this episode.
And if youâre listening alone right now, consider this me sitting beside you like weâve known each other forever.
Because by the end of this episode, I hope you feel like you have.
I see you, girl. đ€
Be you. Be unshakable. And be Unfiltered AF.
