Oh man…it’s a curious sensation to write that subject line. There are SO many different ways people think about Jesus, and many of those ways feel to me like I don’t want to have anything to do with them. Some of them strike me as dangerous, others as boring, still others as simply un-believable in the 21st century. But…the intrigue with Jesus remains. It remains for me, and for lots of folks I talk with that have pretty thoroughly had enough of what often passes for Christianity. Given that I personally don’t believe that Jesus came to start a religion (we did that all on our own), I think some exploration of the person and teachings of this enduring figure as distinguishable from the religion that bears their name might be a good thing to stir into the mix of what we explore together. So this Sunday, I’m going to start down that path. We’ll be jumping right in to how Jesus’ teachings assail our typically binary ways of dealing with injustice. Whoop!
Location: We’re pretty settled at Creative Manitoba (245 McDermot Avenue, 4th floor) these days. Check the web site for more details. Signs will be out, coffee will be on by about 10:30.
Kids Table – as our community of littles continues to grow (what’s with you people and all the babies?!), we’re finding that we need to make a few small but significant adjustments to how we run Kids Table. More on that in the coming weeks. Not a crisis, just an evolution…but I wanted parents to know that the team that cares for our youngest people are working on making things better, and some of that work will come on stream in the weeks ahead.
Housekeeping – Let’s cut to the chase on this one…we’re low on cash. In other words, although we’ve been keeping up with our obligations and paying our bills (good!), we’re now at a point where we need some more money coming in to keep doing so (not so good). So, if helping to keep The Table up and running matters to you, and you are able to participate in that aspect of our life together by donating, now would be a good time. You can do that on Sunday mornings on location by cash, cheque or electronically through our debit machine, or on our website by clicking the “giving” tab. Gifts of over $10.00 will receive a charitable donation tax deductible receipt after the end of the calendar year.
As always, this update comes with a huge shout-out of gratitude to everyone that supports The Table, whether that’s through finances or time or encouragement. Thank you!
Hold The Date – we’re planning on having our annual Christmas gathering on Sunday evening, December 23rd. We won’t meet that morning, so make a note and plan to come for a feast of several sorts, including good things to eat.
We’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
