Often for those living with someone suffering from dementia, the journey is a very tough and difficult one. People living with alzeheimers turn to forget and say all sorts of things that can be very draining to family members. So this morning, we’ve invited a social worker to educate us about the support family members need to give to those suffering from this disease.

Last week the South African Human Rights Commission released their report indicating that KwaZulu-Natal municipalities have infringed on residents' right to clean drinking water. Provincial authorities have blamed ageing infrastructure and maintenance failures. We then spoke to the Human Rights Commission about the report and also invited the Department of Water and Sanitation, but they asked us to allow them to study the report so that they can respond.

We speak now to Tracey Webster, Chief Executive of the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. She’s says that a “seismic shift” in the education system is required to break the cycle of poverty and inequality in the country. One of the things she highlights is that South Africa is well aware of the issues that persist in the education system and has the skills and resources to address them. However, she says it will require genuine collaboration between leaders in civil society, academia, philanthropy, the private sector and government to ensure every person has access to quality education at every phase of their journey. This she revealed when launching their Education Research Report earlier this month. T

On the other hand, residents in some of the areas under the municipality have gone on the rampage in protest against a lack of water especially in Kwa-Thema and surrounding areas. One sad province in our country is no doubt the Eastern Cape. You may remember just a few weeks ago that a mother poisoned her three children then took hr own life. This comes just a month after another mother in the same province also killed her three children and committed suicide. Police and some of the NGOs suspect this has to do with poverty and hunger. What exactly is going on in the Eastern Cape and just how bad is the hunger situation? Also what sort of intervention programmes are there from government? 

Earlier this week, the South African Human Rights Commission released a new report responding to an inquiry in relation to the KZN water crisis. Over the past year, the chapter nine institution has investigated this inquiry after receiving over 600 complaints from residents.
