Hallo! Another podcast, another opportunity to discuss artists that aren’t with us anymore. Sorry about all the death. Apologies for the telephone-quality recording!!

  • #16: TDP’s BEST OF 2019!! (So Far)

We’re recapping the most notable releases of 2019 so far (in our opinion)!

    A few things:

    1. Only releases covered on the site were up for consideration (so from early February this year onward)2. There’s two lists: Best of Seattle and Best of Beyond Seattle3. This was really REALLY hard to drum together. Like, seriously. There was so much good music that came out this year I felt bad even narrowing it to a top 5.

Please enjoy! If there are albums or works you feel should be included or reordered, let me know on your preferred social media! Alternatively, if you make music or represent an artist and want someone to hear your music, shoot me an email at [email protected] or use the Contact Form on this website! I listen to everything! Really!

And we’re back with your regularly scheduled programming!! Today on the podcast we’ve got Alex Benson (from the excellent local zine Loop and Replay) talking about one of the most devastating blows to artistic expression in the 20th century: the rise (and fall) of the Cambodian rock n’ roll movement. As Phnom Penh was transformed into a musical utopia in the 60’s and early 70’s, the communist Khmer Rouge ordered a mass exodus that resulted in nearly of quarter of the country’s population (including most of its artists) being sent to their deaths. How did a once fertile country change so rapidly? And how much has Cambodian culture recovered since? Tune in and find
