  • 7. Results as Teachers

Blow your own mind with what I'm about to teach on this episode that the results of our students actually have nothing to do with the results we create as teachers.

Results are the way we show up in the world.

Results are what we have had a hand in materializing for ourselves.

Results are the creation of our thoughts and beliefs.

Our Results belong to us and they are made by us.

The Results of our students are their business, all the same.

Teachers have a hand in influencing student data, of course, but why are there teachers out there who beat themselves up when student data isn't complimentary or in alignment with the level of our teaching abilities?

Quite simply, if you've been listening to my podcast, student actions on the day of an assessment will be influenced by their feelings and thoughts in order to create a result.

"I can't take the test for you" is something that teachers say and believe.

This is the reason why teachers cannot control student results.

So join me today for the show where I unpack this concept of the separation of the Results of teachers and the Results of students.

  • 6. Actions Don't Make Us Feel

What did you just say, Wolfe?  Actions don't make us feel??  But I always feel better after ________.  I always feel bad after ________ happens.  What say you to that?!?

If this is going on in your brain right now, welcome.  Welcome to the offering of doing the hard work to up-level ourselves and have fun along the way.

In this episode, you'll learn more about what Actions are and how Actions are not responsible for creating our feelings.

Because I love examples so much to illustrate my point, I'm using a Circumstance that most all educators across the globe can relate to: current student data.

I take this (neutral) Circumstance and create two totally different Models with it to show the power of our Actions after we feel emotions.

Spoiler: one of the emotions is Overwhelm and the other emotion is Commitment.

How do you think you act when you are feeling these emotions?  Not at the same time, mind you.

I'll guide you through lots of Action possibilities from both of these emotions so you can find yourself within them.

    So fun.  Let's do it!

  • Extra Credit Episode: Processing Emotion

Click here for a copy of the Processing Emotion WorthSheet

Here we are for our next Extra Credit Episode on how to process emotion.  In the episode previous to this one, I talk about the difference between describing emotions with words like anger, frustration, love or motivation and the physical sensations that those emotions are connected to.

I’ll guide you through getting in touch with these physical sensations so you can learn and notice how these vibrations in our body come and go and, ultimately, have no power over us to behave in a certain way without our consent.

Before we start, its important to explain that I will be asking you to recall the last time you felt an emotion you enjoyed, like happiness or love, as well as an emotion that was uncomfortable for you like failure, frustration or anger.

You are the one who decides to listen through this guided processing of emotion.

You are also the one who is most in tune with your readiness to do this work.

If you don’t think you’re ready to go there, its ok to pause here and come back another time.

  • 5. Feelings and The "Like"

Today we talk about feelings, emotions, warm fuzzies, cold pinpricks and everything in between.

I’m going to spend some time explaining the differences between emotions and physical sensations and how they can also be connected.

We’re going to talk about where feelings go when we look at a specific situation in our lives and we want to understand more about what we are creating with our thoughts.

Be on the lookout for the Extra Credit Episode that will drop in a few days where we workshop our feelings.  Let me guide you through processing emotions to take your power back as the discerning observer instead of the victim to your feelings.

  • Extra Credit Episode: Choosing Thoughts that Serve You

Time to get out the paper and pencil, after getting your adulting pants on, to explore your thoughts and beliefs.

Thoughts can be tricky because the longer we practice them, the more true they seem to us.

Before you know it, a thought turns into a belief by way of reinforcing its truth to you.

Today we work on uncovering those thoughts and beliefs with some open-ended questions that will help us reveal what we really think as educators.

This work can be done in regards to any topic or situation in your life, not just your career.

So listen along and pause as needed to openly and honestly answer these questions to find the Thoughts underneath.

Then the most important question becomes, "Do I want to keep choosing these thoughts for my future?"

    Well... do you?

  • 4. Thoughts as Teachers

"Thoughts become things" was one of the most memorable phrases from my days of binge watching The Secret.  I loved the interviews of different coaches, experts, and thought leaders offering up their wisdom.

As educators, we have thoughts all the time that we just think are factual truth.  We never stop to question or take a curious look at these thoughts.  Why?  Because we probably like the way these thoughts make us feel.

In this episode, I'll explain more about my take on thoughts and what processes in the brain actually leads into a thought (which can shine the light on students' thought creation as well).

Then I'll guide you through a well-known but little-practiced strategy for finding thoughts and taking a compassionate, unattached look at what's going on in your brain.

I'll even talk about what to do if writing out the chatter in your brain may seem scary.

Your TWDs (Thought Work Daily) is a super powerful and loving way of taking control of your life by managing the thoughts that have a tendency to become beliefs.

  • 3.1 Extra Credit Episode: Creating a Pure Circumstance

In this Extra Credit Episode, I'll give you several questions to ask yourself as you think about and describe a situation that will to into the Circumstance line of your Model.

Here are a few so you know what to expect:

-What are the facts that can be proven in a court of law?

-What numbers and figures are associated?

-What exact words or phrases can be quoted?

-Were the words spoken, texted, written, emailed?

There's a humdinger in there too, for all us teachers that might be thinking that we "have to" do so much and do it perfectly and do it now.

When you follow my pointers on how to talk about a circumstance in a completely neutral way, it helps alleviate some of the discomfort when we indulge in the dramatic side of being a teacher.

  • 3. Circumstances as Teachers

Today, we talk about the powerful first step in managing our minds.  I think its the realization and the practice of recognizing that outside circumstances can't truly make us think or feel anything.

Its easy to understand this logically, but in the moment, when we're living our life as stressed out teachers, our judgement can be clouded and we go back into old habits of being a victim, getting defensive and being emotionally immature.

Listen once, listen twice.  There's something in here for everyone.

I'm here for you if you have questions, feedback or suggestions for future episodes.

    [email protected]

Thanks for listening!  Look for the Extra Credit Episode coming up in a few days that is a mini-workshop on neutralizing a circumstance with powerful and essential questions you can start using now.

  • 1. Results Ahead of Time - Mindset Coaching for Teachers

Results ahead of time is not a new concept for teachers... or is it?

When we're all gathering together for the first time in Au/gust after a fun and exciting summer break, we are all creating our future experience for students when they return.

We are imagining how great it will be as we deliver our lessons.

We are imagining how well-behaved they will all be with our rock solid behavior plan and fresh techniques.

We are imagining ourselves at the center of it all, doing what we love most.

    Teaching.

When the going gets tough, do we ever re-imagine this utopian world that we believed would appear back in August?

Do we start going the opposite direction and start catastrophizing (imagining the worst) for our futures?
