Just came back from Hawaii and a scary surfing adventure which I pushed myself to ride the wave. It's important to try new things and push through discomfort in order to move our big lives forward. We can all ride the wave which we know as the human experience. There is no guarantee that hard things won't happen but we can try to move through them with some ease and flow as opposed to resistance which adds an extra layer of suffering to an already difficult situation.
We talk about people pleasing which is almost expected as a mom but it often comes with conditions, resentment and often being not truthful about what we want. If we learn how to be honest and compassionate with ourselves about what we want and that is actually the best for the whole family. It's like putting the oxygen mask on ourselves first.

Hi all,
Don't know if you realized but the new intro music is a some from my last album called "Come Swing With Me" which is about how quickly we make friends when we are young and can just play, play, play. Would love for us to all assume that we are all friends without any expectations and that we have each other's back.
I am in Hawaii and want to make sure to keep in touch and record this podcast. Had a funny thing happen waiting for the sunset that never came. Turns out I was facing west and didn't realize it until I didn't see a sunrise. Live and learn!
I talk about the importance of a morning routine in order to start the day intentionally and not let unintentional thoughts and feelings take over how the day goes. My morning routine consists of a thought download, meditation and yoga and could be anywhere from 5-60 minutes. Be loving, forgiving and curious with yourself when starting the routine and don't let that mean old judge with the perfectionist fantasy make you decide you can't do it. Doing it once is already a revolution.

We cannot control the people around us, although we really try, or the circumstances of the world but we can find peace within our own minds. In this episode we talk about my difficulty sleeping and fear of flying while heading to my small fishing village on the bering strait, Shishmaref and how I deal with it.
I talk about young people's oppression as the first time in our lives where a bigger person has authority over a smaller person and how that sets us up for future oppressions and particularly how it relates to their inability to make money and finances. I give you a different way to thing about money topics with your teens at home while we explore our early money beliefs we grew up with.

In this episode we discuss my return to Nome and the wildlife outside my window in the tundra. I am in love with Musk ox and ravens!
Understanding parents oppression and how it works to make the job of paren"teen"ing harder and how we were set up to not be able to live out and support our children, and ourselves, in their pursuit of hopes and dreams.
We discuss how trying to figure out the "how" of going after the dream and identifying the "obstacles" early actually make it hard to think big and continue on without a lot of confusion and doubt. The "how" is unknown when trying to develop new big ideas and goals and even if someone else has done a similar thing your teen and yourself still come have your different perspective and skills.
When working on new ideas incorporate the 10% rule, where there is at least 10% of something useful or telling in what everyone says and find that nugget. Then play the "yes....and" game where you find the 10% and says what you love about it and then add another suggestion to expand on the idea, not limit the idea with worries or constraints. Go back and forth with your teen in this way as long as you need to. This is the creative phase and you want to get as many ideas as possible. Than pick the ideas that are the most exciting and want to explore and for every obstacle or task make a to do list.
Don't get caught up with the thoughts, "I don't know how", "I am confused", "I won't be able to do it". These thoughts just leave or minds in confusion and discouragement and will never generate the feelings necessary to move forward. Those thoughts are never useful! Replace them with "I'm figuring it out", "I will find the help I need", "I will learn to do it" etc.
Then consult with your older and wiser self and ask them what they would want to see happen. Usually they know and they would never say I "I regret having tried a new thing"

In this episode we are exploring the idea of being your teens main person. This doesn't mean that they want you to be with them every moment or not have other friends or will even tell you everything. What it does mean is that they know that they can come to you if things get really bad and that they won't have to worry about taking care of your worry, anxiety and feelings. It is usually what makes people not tell their parent's anything because they worry much more about taking care of the parents rather than really working on the problem and figuring it out in helpful ways.
