The Television Time Capsule Podcast

In this episode, we break down "Rose the Prude" as Rose meets Arnie Peterson — the first man she's been truly interested in since Charlie died — and spirals about whether going on a cruise with him means betraying her husband's memory. The other girls push her toward life, and Rose eventually says yes, navigating grief and guilt to find something that feels like a beginning. Meanwhile, Dorothy and Sophia have a gin rummy marathon that is exactly as competitive as you'd expect.

In this episode, we examine "Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding?" as Dorothy's daughter Kate announces she's getting married in Miami — which means one unavoidable complication: Stan. Herb Edelman makes his first appearance as the man who walked out on Dorothy after 38 years, and the episode doesn't shy away from how raw that wound still is. It's funny on the surface and genuinely complicated underneath — an early sign of the emotional depth this show would carry all seven seasons.

In this episode, we dive into "The Engagement," the series premiere of The Golden Girls, as Blanche's excitement over a marriage proposal turns into chaos when her fiancé Harry is arrested for bigamy — and Dorothy's mother Sophia moves in permanently after Shady Pines burns down. Coco the housekeeper makes his one and only appearance, the girls find their footing, and the show establishes everything it's going to be in a single half-hour. This is where it all begins: four women under one roof, bound not by blood or obligation, but by circumstance — and, already, by love.
