Pre poo-A pre-poo (or pre-shampoo) is an oil or conditioning treatment that's applied to the hair before shampoo.

ACV rinse- apple cider vinegar rinse

Dusting- A trimming technique used to help grow out your hair by getting rid of the damaged tips of all of the hair, regardless of length.

Kinky Coily

Wavy hair is prone to frizziness, has limited volume and resistant to styling. Stay away from heavy products that weigh the hair down.

Major problems: hair tends to lack volume and look limp and straight.

Product recommendations:

Curly hair has a well defined curl pattern of S shaped or spiral curls. This hair type has a lot of body, elasticity and excellent style versatility. It is easy to swell, dry out and frizz.

Major problems: Tame frizz and enhance moisture.

Product recommendations:

Kinky Curly hair has well defined tight curls in corkscrew or coil shapes. It is highly dense and full of volume. Easy to swell, tangle, frizz and craves moisture.

Major problems: Dryness, extreme frizz, breakage and brittle hair.

Product recommendations:

Kinky Coily hair is tightly coiled with some volume and limited movement. It requires manipulation to achieve curl definition. Hair is fragile, shrinks, breaks easily and requires lots of moisture.

Major problems: Needs lots of deep conditioning and leave-in for moisture.

On today's episode of the Terrinique Show, we discuss the truth behind alcohol in hair products.

Short chain = Bad alcohols

Long chain = Moisturizing alcohols

Short-chain alcohols have 3-5 carbons in the longest chain while long-chain alcohols have 13-22 carbons in the longest chain. The different lengths change how the body or hair absorbs and uses the nutrient.

Short chain are good at soaking up excess grease or sweat, but they can cause excessively dry the scalp and hair, leaving the hair cuticle rough and brittle.

Long-chain fatty alcohols are excellent moisturizers and emollients for hair.

On this episode of the Terrinique Show, we discuss 5 tell tale signs your hair needs protein:

1. Hair that is super porous

Hair that absorbs and releases moisture quicker than normal. Highly porous strands have tears and gaps in the hair, exposing the cortex to stressors. This causes the hair to absorb and release moisture faster than normal, leading to frizzy, tangled hair.

2. Hair that has low elasticity or doesn’t bounce back but breaks

If the hair stretches and bounces back to its normal length without breaking, it means the hair is healthy. If it stretches and doesn’t return or breaks, then your hair needs protein.

3. Excessive shedding and breakage

Normally you should lose up to 100 strands a day. But if you’re losing more hair due to breakage then your hair needs protein.

4. Hair feels gummy

Does the hair feel mushy, sticky or like bubblegum? This means that your hair's support system is weak and has been over-moisturized, causing the texture to change and feel funny.

5. Chemical processed hair or color treated hair

Chemicals elevate the pH of the hair, causing the cuticles to rise. The longer the cuticles are raised up, the longer the cortex of the hair is exposed the more susceptible to protein loss and breakage. Hair color, bleaching, and treatments contain chemicals that alter the protein bonds of the hair, leading to damage.

On today's episode of the Terrinique Show, we discuss the right way to deep condition the hair.

What’s the right way to deep condition the hair.

Why shampoo your hair before deep conditioning:

Removes the barriers of buildup, sebum and debris and help the hair shaft absorb the ingredients from the conditioner.

Deep conditioners have more emollient and humectant ingredients than regular conditioners. When choosing a deep conditioner you want to look for ingredients like Shea Butter, Avocado, banana and honey.

Heat or no heat:

There is no need to use heat when deep conditioning. Using heat just helps the conditioner penetrate deeper into the strands but there is no need to use here.

How long to leave it on:

from 20 mins to an hour.

On today's episode of the Terrinique Show, we are discussing the best oils for length retention and how to use them.

1. Castor Oil- The best oil for hair growth. It is rich in vitamin E, proteins and minerals. It softens hair and locks in moisture to give your tresses a sheen. Castor oil improves blood circulation, which is needed for hair growth. It works great on a dry, flaky scalp. Apply it directly to scalp or hair daily.

2. Avocado Oil— Add this to your spray (water bottle) and use daily. Avocado oil is a carrier oil which is heavy and rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. It will help lock in moisture, create elasticity and length retention. Avocado Oil Oils helps reduce the presence of the hormone DHT which, is a leading cause of hair loss and thinning.

3. Olive Oil- A versatile oil that is used in the kitchen and on hair. It is a rich combination of vitamin E, antioxidants and oleic acid. It also revitalises the scalp, nourishes the roots and softens hair, giving it a smooth texture. Combine it with lemon juice, to get rid of dandruff.

4. Argan Oil- Boosts hair growth, repairs split ends and protects the hair from heat damage. Argan oil improves scalp health and prevents hair breakage. It undergoes minimal processing, so it is the best oil for hair growth. Apply directly to the hair daily.

5. Jojoba Oil- The only oil that acts like the scalp's natural sebum. It promotes thickness, soothes the scalp, repairs breakage, controls dandruff. In general, jojoba oil will moisturize and nourish all types of hair, but it’s particularly effective on curly and textured hair.
