Today on the Podcast I am chatting with Meghan Bonhomme who owns and runs the Lovely Human School. Meghan is your lead cheerleader, fun yogi, teacher, and accountability bff to shake you out of your negativity and guide you to deep self-love.
What comes to mind when you think of self care? Skin care, bubble baths, Netflix?
If you really asked yourself though - how does still stuff really make you feel?
Are you using these tools as a way to numb you from the noise of the world we live in and are you blocking yourself from truly understanding yourself, your emotions and what you want?
Today myself and Meghan explore this idea of self care and what ‘ the work ‘ really looks like.
Meghan is a big advocate for the ‘fluffy’ side of self care, but she also stresses the importance of the ‘icky’ self care too - the stuff that feels uncomfortable in the moment but allows you to expand, grow and reach your potential as a human being. We were never taught how to care for ourselves in school, so Meghan uses her experience as a professor to coach others on how to find our self worth and express ourselves freely and authentically.
This conversation really spoke to me. As someone who is on a never ending journey of self love and self care, I not only learnt a lot but shared some personal tips that have helped me in the past and my present. As a workaholic, It is important to recognise the noise, the stimulation, the expectations, the guilt, and push them to the side in order to focus on your own growth and expansion.
This work isn’t easy, it will most likely make you feel uncomfortable but ultimately on the other side of this stuff is more fulfilment in life as well. The amount of effort we put into others, our work, our career, our studies can be translated back to ourselves and the more we learn to love ourselves, the more we can perform better and make the world better too.
This episode is for anyone who is ambitious, a workaholic, a people pleaser, a go getter. You can have it all! You can still achieve your dreams whilst practicing self care, in fact you will do BETTER if you practice self care. Know that by putting yourself first, you can achieve whatever you want by showing up as your best self possible.
In today’s episode we discuss:
The biggest struggle Meghan sees in others when it comes to self love.
The difference between fluffy self love and icky self love
Why doing the deep emotional work is worth it
Some key self care tips Meghan recommends when starting out in the space
And so much more!
