Mental Health can be a life-changer. In this podcast, we delve into mental health with Life Changer founder Scott Watters.  The former player and coach knows his subject and with Trevor Hendy developed Life Changer. It hasn't been a subject until recently, people wanted to talk about.  But thanks to the government and groups like Life Changer we as a community are far more open and willing to discuss the topic.    

The AFL Draft is a tricky process. Some people get drafted and many don’t. In this podcast, we talk with Lachie Jones originally from Bute Football Club on the Yorke Peninsula and Woodville West Torrens in the SANFL. Lachie was drafted by Port Adelaide after being part of the Power’s Next Generation Academy. Now, that all sounds simple and straight forward, but it’s been a journey for Lachie Jones a Premiership player with Woodville West Torrens. Irrespective of being part of Port’s Academy, one never knows what’s around the corner in the AFL Draft world. Expect the unexpected, 1,000 players put themselves into the AFL draft and about 60 got picked up by AFL clubs. Lachie Jones was selection number 16. 

Basketball is massive on the Yorke Peninsula if fact basketball is very big around the state particularly in country areas. One of the administration bodies is the Yorke Valley Basketball Association, it runs Monday night and Friday night competitions at the Copper Coast Sport & Leisure Centre. Its President is Trevor Talbot, the father of Stephanie Talbot the Captain of the Adelaide Lightning. In fairness, Trevor has achieved a lot in his own right over a long period associated with sport including Aussie Rules. But these days basketball is a love for Trevor. The administration isn't always easy when you have around 800 members. But Mondays (Juniors) and Fridays (Seniors) have been very successful and the crew from the Yorke Valley Basketball Association do a magnificent job.

RDA Yorke Peninsula is Riding for the Disabled Association Yorke Peninsula. It all about introducing people, not as fortunate, to the sport of riding a horse or equestrian. Disabled people working with horses and coaches to learn all about the sport. The athletes can be taught so much. It’s not just about the horse riding there is so much more. Andrea Ford is the RDA YP club secretary. In this podcast, she explains what the RDA Yorke Peninsula is about.

The new senior coach of the Kadina Football Club is Rian Nelson. He’s no stranger to the Yorke Peninsula Football League having previously coached Wallaroo. In this episode we talk with Rian about his appointment, his coaching philosophy and what he wants to be the future of the Kadina Footy Club under his command. It’s been a rough 2020 for most clubs but Rian Nelson sees us coming out of the great hole before too long. His focus is making a success of his time at the Bloods.   

In Series 2 Episode 23 we take a look at the Yorke Peninsula Dirt Kart Club on Port Road with Vice President Russell Cowie. What’s involved, how much does it cost and safety aspect? Russell is no stranger to the sport and is well known for his participation over a lifetime. His father Neville is known for his sidecar racing, a legend. Russell has his own team of three young boys with his wife Michelle. Racing is part of the Cowie DNA.
