Lance, an Arkansas native,  attended the University of Arkansas, where he gained the skills to build communities. Through a career in grassroots organizing with a stint in corporate, he answered the call to lead BAC when NWA needed it most.

This week on the Tie odom podcast Shawn Schwartzman  joins me to talk about the power of serving one and loving Jesus. 

Shawn is the Co founder and CEO of Potter’s House and he’s also my boss. Potter’s House’s mission is to be a bridge to strengthen and connect communities across socioeconomic and cultural lines. For the past 25 years Potter’s house has grown from simply meeting one family and doing life together to 3 thrift stores, adult and youth programs and a preschool. 

Since the recording of this episode Potter's House has entered into a very exciting endeavor.  They have entered into a contract to purchase the building that was formerly Jefferson Elementary School in Fayetteville. This is a full circle moment, because this is where Anita first met Tiff and the journey of Potter's House began. Introducing philanthropy to children is a great way to teach young people about humanity, empathy, and the power of service to our communities.

In this episode, I chat with my eight-year-old, Alex, as he shares his thoughts on his summer community service project. I’ve always included Alex in my philanthropic outreach, but as he gets older, it's important to allow him to choose how he serves whenever possible. I do not want him to think of service as something I make him do.  Nor do I want him to participate in projects that are of no interest to him. As he grows and learns about what he likes, I will find and connect him with philanthropic causes he's passionate about. I've attached a PDF to help you introduce or expand upon how you and your little ones engage in philanthropy.
