  • TN255: Can you continue business as usual in the midst of a war and world crisis?
In the last few weeks, I have watched the war in Ukraine with shock and horror. I know many of you have too. I also know that there are many other places in the world where there is fear, violence and conflict right now.
It can be hard to focus on running and growing our business in moments in times like this. I know many of you are questioning whether this is the right time to launch a product or to celebrate a success.  I know many of you feel fear, anxiety or are triggered by your own past traumas.
So if you care, if you feel hurt, if you feel that empathy and even that anxiousness and fear, I want you to turn it into action for yourself first, then your community and then for the world, to make it a better place.
It is definitely not business ‘as usual’ but I want to be very clear on this - business does need to go on. Life needs to go on.
We need to show up now more than ever - for our families, our community and in the hope that we can make a difference to our world.
In this week’s episode, I explain how we can continue to do business in a way that is respectful and mindful of what is going on around us.

    • Why business needs to go on and how it must go on

      • TN254: How to deal with rejection and failures to grow in business and in confidence – With Annette Van Der Feltz
None of us like to feel like we’ve failed. When something goes wrong in your business, it can be very hard to separate that from you as a person. We feel it deeply.
With so much of the conversation around business focusing on how to be successful, this week we’re taking an alternative look at success – what do you do when your best plans go wrong?
In this episode, Annette Van Der Feltz reveals the benefits of disappointment and how it is possible to shift your thinking to embrace them. She shares the real value of rejection and fear, offers insightful tips to get through any disappointment and explains the advantages that it can bring to your business and to you personally.
The things that went wrong and the failures don’t define me. I can choose how I let external events influence me and my confidence.
By the end of the episode, Annette will have you looking forward to your next rejection and disappointment!
Annette Van Der Feltz is the founder of Dutch American Connection, and an intercultural coach and facilitator helping Dutch companies and expatriates be successful in the US. • TN253: Breaking the glass ceiling without being broken
Most women are full or part-time caregivers. Their free labor allows organizations and businesses to be more effective, create value and increase profit. Financial vulnerability and dependence should not be their reward.
If you want to grow your business or take it to the next level but struggle to do so because you are a mother or a caregiver, and that prevents you in various ways from creating your own source of revenue, know that this challenge is part of a much bigger problem in our society.
However, there are things you can do about it at your own micro level to feel more empowered in your entrepreneurial journey.
“It is not only time for unpaid work to be recognized in our society, but also for players at all the levels of our society to share the ‘caring’ burden so that women can have the bandwidth to achieve their own dreams, create their own financial freedom and break the glass ceiling.”
In this episode, I want to share with you my take on this challenge and some inspiration to help you not only have the bandwidth to take your business seriously, but also be part of a movement to break the glass ceiling for women, without being broken.
            What you will learn:
            • How I see this societal issue play out in the day-to-day life of women who want to grow a successful portable business while being present for their loved ones
            • What conversation you can have with yourself to make your business a priority
            • What conversation you can have with your family to make yourself a priority

An expat horse and portable business owner walk into a new life. It sounds a bit like the beginning of a joke doesn’t it? Yet, it describes the amazing story of Jaizel Selleslaghs, a Dutch woman who moved to Peru with her husband and her horse and became a successful entrepreneur working with dressage riders around the world.
Jaizel is proof that you can build a successful portable business out of anything. In this episode she talks about how she started her business from her greatest passion and how consistency and planning have helped her to maintain her particular business niche.
“I think the most important thing is that you keep working on your business. When you don't feel good about it, you want to quit, or you need a break, take your break, pack yourself together and continue again with your business.”
She also shares how important the Portable Business Accelerator™ course has been in developing her unique business and completely reinventing what is traditionally an in-person profession.
Jaizel Selleslaghs was born in The Netherlands and currently lives in Peru with her Belgian diplomat husband. Her biggest passion is horses – so much so that she moved her own horse from The Netherlands to Peru to continue their lives together.
While training horses in Peru and teaching horse riding to Peruvians, Jaizel also started her own portable business PLANtastic Dressage, in which she designs personalized training plans for dressage riders around the globe.
