In an “Appendices” video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMwwUsirc3w), TheRedBook (https://www.youtube.com/c/TheRedBook) addressed a comment I left on this video about whether Sauron took the Ring to Numenor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBSgELkQNlg. My comment built somewhat on my own video on a related topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKzuKSus8FI. The question ultimately is whether Sauron’s ability to corrupt or influence other minds is enhanced by his own Ring, and in this video I wanted to explain myself a bit further since I think TheRedBook’s responses to my comment showed that I wasn’t sufficiently clear in my point. Always love a good back and forth with another great channel!

Episode 6 is much better than 5, with a focused story and some nice character moments, but the writing is still clunky despite many overt attempts to capitalize on the Peter Jackson trilogy and even Tolkien himself.

We finally finish our strange journey through John Boorman’s drug-fueled script for a Lord of the Rings movie, and the ending is just as bizarre as the rest of it.

For about 30 minutes I was kind of enjoying this episode, then the writers decided to have a collective aneurysm and deliver the most nonsensical garbage I’ve ever seen.

Happy Hobbit Day 2022! In this video I talk about that most famousest of hobbits, Frodo Baggins, and the uniqueness of his heroism, which is neither the typical ancient mode of hero like Beowulf, nor yet the more modern variation like Sam Gamgee, but which nevertheless is an important character type for us to learn from.

Time compression really starts to show itself as we continue John Boorman’s terrible script for adapting The Lord of the Rings, with huge chunks of the story missing.

We’re now half way through season 1 of Rings of Power, and while this episode wasn’t as bad as episode 3, it had some cringe-worthy moments and not much of anything great. Not to mention nothing seems to be progressing the plot. But hey, no Harfoots, so that’s a plus!

There has been a lot of criticism directed at Amazon for making Galadriel a warrior when that role should have been filled by Elrond. But how accurate is it to say that Elrond was a great warrior while Galadriel was not? The evidence may surprise you.

Episode 3 of The Rings of Power introduces us to Numenor and more plot lines, leaves out Elrond altogether, still gives us no progress with the Harfoots, and fails to improve on many of the issues I noted in the first two episodes. But to make matters worse, writing inconsistencies have multiplied to the point of being a serious annoyance.

Picking up where we left off after the Council of Elrond, we follow the Fellowship’s strange journey to and through Moria and then to meet Galadriel in the worst possible way.
