Episode 29 is live 🎙

This week was a little bit of a mixed bag of ideas, I jumped between a whole range of topics, so it was fun to just speak my mind and see where the hour took me.

This week we're talking all about making money online, and my experience with growing an online audience, and some of the expectations that come along with that sort of experience!

When your "success," and I use that word success, very hesitantly, because followers certainly don't equal success. When that number is so outward facing and obvious, you can often end up with the people around you, who don't have any experience in this industry, developing an expectation that you must be making $X of you should be selling Y. When often times, the reality is usually very different.

There is no shame in having, 20k, 50k or 100k followers plus, and having a part time job. Don't let the expectations of those around you with zero experience influence your business behaviours.

Each of us only have a finite amount of willpower to spend forcing ourselves to be consistent, so the name of the game should be figuring out what style, what medium, or what platform best matches your talents, and working backwards from there

This week I wanted to discuss insecurities, a very personal topic in my own life. 

I was an extraordinarily self conscious young man for much of my adolescent years, I really cared what other people thought of me, which lead to some insecurities that took a long time for me to overcome and move past once I became an adult. So today I want to discuss some of those insecurities and the things that I did and continue to do to move past each of those challenges. 

I am now a very comfortable, happy & confident bloke, but that wasn't always the case, so I wanted to speak on that today.

This week I wanted to talk about social media, and how I believe it plays a role in you finding your true voice as a creator.

I don't think there has ever been a time in history where supporting yourself financially as a creative entrepreneur has been so accessible, but with that comes a world & platforms that demands a tremendously high output from you as a creator, and that, I believe, isn't conducive to creating your best work and finding your true creative voice.

Been stuck in a bit of an overthinking rut lately, particularly with my YouTube channel.  But the interesting thing I've noticed, is that all the feelings of self doubt and critique I feel for my YouTube videos, are the exact same feelings I get before I sit down to record a podcast, the difference? I have developed an ability to completely ignore those voices when it comes to my podcast, yet can't seem to shake them for my YouTube...

Why is that? Why is it that in one part of my life I have something under control, and in another that same thing is completely destroying my potential to make the changes I know I need to make in my life? Today I spoke all about this topic, and how I believe Steven Pressfield's Idea of "Resistance" and "Turning Pro" are the answer to my problem.

On this weeks episode, I talk all about my experience with imposter syndrome and self doubt.

It's a topic I'm sure all artist's can relate to, living in a constant limbo between creative fulfilment, and feelings of self doubt, sometimes separated by little more than a few hours! Hopefully this episode will give you a glimpse into how I cope with my feelings of self doubt through a strategy I like to label as "rather than silencing them, give your inner critic a voice" & personify this character within your own mind.

Because by doing so, I find that I can become familiar with these "characters" and begin to recognise their roles and reasons as to why they may surface from time to time. Because there is a reason, there is always a reason.

Persistence and consistency are by far the biggest indicators of success, especially as a creative! And I think the best way to do that is to build your foundation around something that you love.
