The Tone Mob Podcast

This week, I'm talking with Michael Pack of Sonic Pickups. He's a super rad dude with an extremely interesting history in special makeup effects, and of course guitar pickups. He was also a former Army medic, a triathlete, martial arts practitioner, private security officer, and WE BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE.

It was a blast talking to him, and I think you are really going to enjoy it.

It was a great pleasure to chat with KG on this episode of the podcast! Kyle has played with Jack Black in Tenacious D, his own project The Kyle Gass Band, and a whole lot more! We talked about some his favorite guitarists, the history of the band, show business, potentially going electric and a whole lot more! This one was a great time, and I think you'll really enjoy it!

Philippe is back and on this episode we discuss his recurring bit Cocaine Man, whether Telecaster's with Bigsbys are like bowling shirts, Larry The Cable Guy, Andrew Dice Clay, KISS, and a whole lot more.

This is seriously a riot of an episode. You are in for a real treat!

Welcome to part two of my conversation with Mr. Charles Henry! On the first one, we waded into some pretty heavy territory, but hopefully it was helpful to some folks. On this section it is quite a bit lighter, and we go into a general music geek Nerdfest. It was a blast to have him on again, and I cannot wait until we can do this in person.

My dude Charles is back for two bonus episodes!! After we hung up our last call, he informed me that there was more to his story than he initially shared. I invited him to come back on and share it with everyone since stories like his have helped others in the past.

It was a long chat, and I'm breaking it up into two parts. You can find Part 2 as the next episode in your feed.

Bloody guitars, drop tuning, no pedalboard and a Kemper??? Dan Sugarman is a successful guitar player who doesn't do ANYTHING that I (Blake) do as far as gear goes. Is he on to something? Well, he is in a professional touring band with a super dedicated fanbase, and I am alone in the Shred Shed making bleep/bloop noises. So there is that.

This was a very fun episode, and I had a great time talking with Dan. Even if he doesn't use tube amps anymore. ;)

Brian Nutter has a HISTORY in the music industry to say the very least. From playing with Keith Urban, Taylor Swift and just about anyone who had a major label deal in Nashville to making extremely cool custom guitars, this dude has done the thing. He has so many stories, insights, and is just a genuinely rad dude. This is such a great episode for literally anybody interested in the music industry in any capacity.

Enjoy this one and then check out Brian's guitars HERE.

Mikey Demus has returned to the show! Mikey plays guitar in the band Skindred, and has a great pedal company called Red Beard Effects. We got all caught up on this one and it was WAY overdue. We talk about difficult podcast episodes, how buff Adrian Thorpe is, some of the difficulties that he went through last year, not buying tuner pedals, and a whole lot more.

Check out Skindred HERE and Red Beard Effects HERE

My buddy Ryan Plewatki from Demos In The Dark came on the show at long last! On this one, we take a long look at "paid vs unpaid" gear demos, talk about Shaquille O'Neal, gush about Seuf Guitars, and a whole lot more. This was a good look into the thought process that goes into presenting gear in the context of content creation/gear demos.

My dude Shelby has returned!! He came on the show quite a while ago back when he worked at a little place called Chicago Music Exchange. He has since struck it out on his own, and created a company called Black Bobbin which is doing some really awesome stuff. We talk about what he has been up to, how the guitar industry is changing, the challenges with starting a guitar shop during the pandemic, and a whole lot more!
