But the ego plays hide and seek with the light and that love, and eventually it is lost more often than it is found. And so if we are going to get out of this game of lost and found we have to do something that the sufis call dhikr or shikr, which is remembrance of God.”

And then there is love, but there is love not coming from any object of desire. The love comes from diving into the flame itself, the Real, not the imaginary projection; and it cannot come from another human being, it can only come from the ultimate Source that is the true essence of what all is.”

“An ability to remain unshakable when things happen that create anxiety and fear and confusion in others, we can remain a pillar of strength. And that is more and more important these days, as the world is shaking, both literally and figuratively, and people are feeling more and more groundless in their lives. And it is important to make it a very conscious part of our meditative practice to cultivate the power of unshakable stillness, steadiness, that does not waver, and that does not yield to fear or confusion. And that power, once it has been cultivated to a certain extent becomes just simply a natural attribute of our character and acts without any conscious intention needed, it simply becomes second nature. It is actually our original nature but it got repressed when the ego began to develop.”

"The difficult in explaining all this, that relates to the field of Self realization, is that the mind tends to understand everything from within the paradigm of subject/object duality, and that is the very obstacle to the Self realization we wish to achieve; and that paradigm, which is illusory, structures language itself. So the very categories of thought by which we attempt to understand ourselves prevent that understanding from occuring. This is the double-bind on the symbolic level."
