In this special episode, John discusses his own beginnings, and what led him to found The Streetwise Trader Podcast in the first place, what his personal goals are, and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
One of John’s main aims is to motivate people into following their dreams and their passions, but so many are going unrealised. John urges people to take control, to make a plan, and to go for it.

John came from a hard upbringingand felt that he was heading down the wrong path in life. At sixteen he found himself detained at a detention centre. When he came out, he went straight into the world of work and spent much time searching for the missing component in his life.
John fell into being a gas engineer almost by accident. Taking it upon himself to fix a technical issue at his job, he discovered an aptitude for the practical side of being a gas engineer and devoted himself to turning himself into a success. He achieved this by carefully building a good reputation, and leveraging work from a nearby business that had a surfeit of work.
Part of John’s journey was recognising that he had mental health issues early on, and addressing them head-on by seeking professional help. Hard work and perseverance, as well as the drive to succeed, saw John able to build his business into a success, even after such a low point in his life.
Mentoring and planning helped John to realise that coming “off the tools” and focussing on growing the business, would be beneficial. Podcasting, social media and other new forms of marketing are helping John to drive growth in his business.
Operations are key - You need to have your own set of systems in place for your business. Standards, manuals and operational guidelines help to instil quality into your business.
John has created a business eco-system, or as he puts it “businesses within businesses” - a development of ventures that not only benefit customers and clients, but also each other.
John has found that helping and mentoring others has made him feel more positive, and has improved his outlook on life. Through writing a book about his experiences, from podcasting, and from acting as a personal mentor, he has been given the opportunity to study himself, and to recognise the factors that have made him successful in both life and business.
