Are you responsible for how things went? The way we typically operate or relate to responsibility is that it is a fact. Whether you are responsible or not, there are problems with this approach. Some of the problems are that when responsibility is a fact, then taking responsibility for how things went becomes a fact-finding mission. As a leader, it diminishes your capacity to be responsible. It also lowers your ability to affect change. It is the art of modeling --- Modeling something is the act of showing people through your being and what you're doing. What do you stand for? Do you stand for something safe, easy, and comfortable? Your stand supports you. It is why you go in a different direction. It might be somewhat comfortable, easy, fun, or safe. --- this is the nature of a stand. Leadership often works with your stand, and without a stand, you will turn into the so-called "default stand." As a leader, you are either having people be attracted to you or you're enrolling them in something. Part of a leader's job is to be impeccable. Unfortunately, even some of the most brilliant leaders equate impeccability to perfection. And nothing can be further from the truth. On the contrary, impeccability does not mean you are perfect. In essence, it means you are responsible for your edges, you recognise them when they show up, and you address them accordingly.
