In this week's episode, I am discussing childhood and developmental trauma. Many of us may be wondering what is going on before we start our recovery journey. Why we are experiencing persistent sadness that does not go away? Have trouble with every relationship we are in? Why it is so difficult to function daily? Why I am angry and yelling at my kids constantly? Why I can't set and adhere to boundaries? Why am I drinking 2 bottles of wine daily to cope with my life? Why do I eat every single time I feel anxiety or am triggered? Why am I triggered all the freaking time? Many of these issues will result from the trauma we may have experienced in our childhood, but maybe aren't associated with our childhood? My mentor Bobbi Parish wrote some of the material that I am referencing in this podcast. Bobbi is the executive director of The International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaches (IAOTRC) and where I took my initial certification thru for Trauma Recovery Coaching.
I do briefly discuss childhood sexual abuse so please keep that in mind before listening. This show is to be used as a reference and resource, not as a replacement for professional help. Many of the examples or experiences I shared in this podcast are of my own. If you feel that you need assistance please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and I will connect you with the correct resources right away. More information can also be found under the mental health resource section of my website at www.gracefulangel.ca.

Healing Developmental Trauma: How Early Trauma Affects Self-Regulation, Self-Image, and the Capacity for Relationship by Laurence Heller PHD, and Aline LaPierre PHD
Fear is often a trauma response that has begun for many of us in childhood. Fear interferes with most trauma survivor's daily life. It can be debilitating...it can present in many different ways. Ignoring fear doesn't actually take care of the fear...it just perpetuates as it's a response that wants to be heard.
Like many fear rules my life. But it's a part of my journey that I am working on getting to the bottom of. In today's episode, I share with you how fear shows up for me...how it affects me and what it can look like (as everyone is different). As well as what I am doing to work with the fear part of myself that is keeping me stuck and immobilized.
As I state in my episode, I am not a medical professional. Any of the thoughts or experiences I have shared are my own. If you have any concerns are in danger I advise you to reach out to seek professional help. I can help guide you towards the resources that you may need.
I have linked below some of the articles I shared and the book I shared in my episode. My website is linked below as well in case you are interested in more resources on trauma and trauma recovery, or if you are interested in learning more about the work that I do and can help you with.
