My guest for this episode of The Traveling Image Makers podcast is Swedish travel photographer Jens Lennartsson.
I got to know Jens through some articles he had published online and I immediately became a fan of his writing and of his photography. I though he has some truly inspiring opinions on the subjects of travel photography, writing, and visual storytelling, so I asked him to be a guest on my show. He graciously accepted and we recorded this conversation shortly afterwards.
I hope you will find this interview to be as insightful as I did. Below the fold, you will also find links to some of the articles we discussed during our chat and I encourage you to read them, if you want to know a bit more about Jens's outlook on photography and travel. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

I have known Australian travel and landscape photographer Paul Pichugin for a few years and I was always attracted by his positive personality and admired him for his work and his huge success on social media. It was therefore a big surprise for me to read about the struggles and doubts he described in one of his recent blog posts, Let's Be Honest.
As I think Paul's difficulties are common to many photographers, who sometimes find it hard to translate popularity into real business, I wanted to interview him for the podcast and I am truly happy that he accepted to be my guest and open his heart once more to talk about art, business, social media and their relationship.
We didn't just talk about the business side of things, of course, but we chatted at length about Paul's recent trip to Antarctica, which is such a fascinating and sought-after destination for photographers. If you ever intend to go there, you should definitely listen to this episode.

Here is the second interview I did while I was in Venice for the carnival. I was introduced to Jim Zuckerman by my other guest, Robin Yong and of course I asked if I could interview him.
Jim was very kind as he invited me over to his hotel for a coffee and a fifteen-minute talk on the sofa, that you can listen to in audio and watch in video below.

In recent years, I've taken the habit of going to Venice at least once a year for the Carnevale, a great festival where people dress up with fancy and elaborate costumes for two weeks. It's just one big feast for photographers, especially considering those people will pose for you for free. Naturally, it tends to attract lots of photographers, many of them from abroad.
This year, I went to Venice with the aim of meeting up with and interviewing a few of those photographers and this is exactly what I did. One of them is my good friend, popular photographer and traveler extraordinaire Trey Ratcliff.
Besides being a great artist, Trey is just a nice warm-hearted person, who has some very interesting insights on travel, life, the universe, and everything. Let me just say that this interview was not just about cameras and places, even though we did talk quite a bit about the countries he visited on his way to Italy. You will just have to listen to it to know what I mean.

When I first read the story of how a photographer traveled through Asia with a limbless man, I knew I had to interview that photographer. Luckily for me and for you, my dear listeners, that photographer, Anna Tenne, graciously accepted to be my guest and to tell the story of how she decided to embark on a journey that changed her life forever.
Anna is an Australian photographer that has spent the last 10 years traveling the world. She's had many unique experiences from living in remote Hill-tribe villages, riding ostriches, walking 25km just to eat cheese-cake and diving with sharks - always living to tell the tale. Obviously. She absolutely loves meeting and photographing people but hates wearing shoes.
As she says of her journey:
I think most people would assume that traveling South-East Asia with a man with no limbs wouldn’t exactly be easy, let alone practical, but that didn’t stop me asking quadruple amputee Chris Koch to go on a crazy adventure with me. Thankfully I did. Traveling with Chris was easily one of the most incredible and valuable experiences of my life.
Listen to my interview with Anna to discover what motivated her, what difficulties she had to face, and what great lessons she learned along the way.

Justin and Armando are famous as the founders of The Photo Frontier, "a fellowship of explorers, guided by creative principles, who believe that photography can enrich their lives and the lives of others."
To put things in perspective, being on the Photo Frontier means being part of a community of photographers, doing jamborees and expeditions and cultivating the values of respect, encouragement, and creativity. Due to distance, I never had a chance to participate in one of their expeditions, but just by reading the reports, they must be a lot of fun. I especially like the quirky and a bit nostalgic way they manage to capture images of the destinations included in those trips.
In my conversation with Justin and Armando, we talked about some of the locations they recently explored, including Route 66, Uncompahgre, and the Palouse.
Listen to the episode, if you want to know more about The Photo Frontier and its artisans. Duration: 37m 11s.
