I chased my athletic dreams through my entire childhood into college. However, I felt short of my overall goal trying to play professional baseball. Fortunately though, I have a positive outlook on life. I realized that my true passion, or my new passion, was the grind of training. It really was the grind of trying to be the very best that I could be. Overtime you gain perspective. I wish that all young athletes knew some of the things that I learned as I grew. Live in the moment, try to be the best athlete that you can be, quit trying to compare yourself to everyone else, and remember it may all be over soon.

Should you play catch every day? This is a question I get asked frequently. Playing catch every day should be the goal of any serious baseball player. Throwing accuracy requires touch. It requires rhythm and fluid mechanics. Your goal should be to throw every single day. Now, that comes with a caveat. You must train, or build up, to be able to throw everyday. If pain or tightness occurs, scale back throwing briefly to prevent injury. It's just like weight training. Athletes need to build up to be able to throw everyday to perform the best on the field.

Episode 1058 is filled with great reactions to several trending topics. The Tyson Fury fight was amazing followed by an interesting twist. Jake Paul and Bisping seems to have fizzled but the idea that they may fight is a crazy thought. I sure hope Michael Bisping doesn't end up taking the fight. He's such an amazing legend and I would hate to see him get in there damage his only good eye. We even discussed a new exercise study and the new Thor trailer that just came out.

Running hills seems to be all the rage in social media posts working out. The problem is a lot of young athletes have no business running on the hill. There are many creative speed and agility drills that you can complete that will enhance a young athlete's speed. It is essential that young athletes train for speed rather than just general conditioning during these short workouts. I'm not suggesting that you can never utilize a hill. Be creative training young athletes and help them have drive to be the best. Use timers, relays, and let the athlete know how many reps they are going to complete to get their maximal effort.

Do you warm up properly? In episode 1055 we go over this topic. It's important that whether you're playing recreational sports, or competing at the highest level, you warm up properly. Getting your muscles ready for vigorous exercise is essential for optimal performance and injury prevention. A simple 10 to 15 minute mobility dynamic warm-up can make you perform better and prevent damage to your joints.

With a combination of 10 years of lifeguarding experience my brother and I think the same. Youngsters these days are out of their life jackets way too early. If they get tired and are not strong swimmers, it can lead to disaster. Pool seem to be the area where kids are out of their life jackets at way too early of an age. Just because you think your kid can swim doesn't mean they are confident enough if they get in a situation where they taking a little bit of water. Pools get deeper in certain areas and this is a huge problem. Please put your kids in lifejackets and keep them safe.

Could there be any more of a feel-good story this year for baseball? The trio is back together. Albert Pujols, Wainwright, and Molina all back on the St. Louis Cardinals. If this is the retirement party that they were waiting for, it is here and fans are loving it. I grew up in the St. Louis area and Albert Pujols is a big part of baseball in the city. It is such a great time to have the three back together for this 2022 season.

Is Elon's new artificial intelligence robot, Optimus, the end of the world as we know it? It's crazy to think, if he literally has solved artificial intelligence and can pair that with his ability to create robots at a mass level, it seems to me that we are literally looking at the Will Smith movie I Robot. All roads seem to lead towards a machine, or new species, being creative. Whether or not that species wants to live with us, is a different matter altogether. I'll tell you though, the time in between will be awesome!

Did the USF underdeliver? I'm not sure. I'm not sure yet if it is really offering something different than what other leagues have done before. A couple different rule changes that are generally barely ever used, and empty stands. Unfortunately that is what has happened in every league that has been generated outside the NFL. I was hoping to see a little bit more to the camera work. Drone footage would be awesome if used in a different way, but it didn't really seem much different than just utilizing the shot that's used on the pulley system. Overtime I'm sure they will practice with getting different angles but I was a little underwhelmed. I think the talent is there. The players played hard, and coaches will evolve as the season goes on. I'm just hoping that one of these leagues can get it right so that they can coexist with the NFL soon.
