Trick or treat had been over for hours in Sun Valley, California, just outside Los Angeles. All the ghosts and goblins had gone home, gorged themselves on candy, and been tucked into bed by the time the doorbell rang sometime after 11 pm at the home of Betty and Peter Fabiano.
