9. Continue With the Real Jesus

In this week's episode of Talking Points, Josh Johnston is our host and he sits down with both Paul and Willie who were preaching on Sunday and Revelation 2 and Genesis 19 respectively. Both passages were in some ways hard passages both to preach and to hear with solemn messages of warning both for God's people and the world around us. Yet these hard messages of judgement and warning are a key part of the gospel message which we must proclaim as a church and in our personal witness to our friends and family. Since we must speak about these things, how do we go about it? How do we remain loving when doing so and how do we show and tell people of the real freedom which comes from being yoked to Christ?

In this week's episode of Talking Points, Katie, Phil, and Paul are talking through some of Sunday's big teaching points. They reflect on how helpful it is to see the big picture of Revelation with the overriding message of the book being one which brings comfort, not fear. They also dwell on how wonderful it is that we are truly friends of God and in true relationship with Him. This naturally drives us to wanting to share the gospel, and in so doing it must be the whole gospel which we share. Not merely a more palatable 'half-gospel' which is in reality no gospel at all.

In this week's Talking Points conversation Katie, Willie, and Edward are thinking through some of the key points and implications from Sunday's teaching. 1 John has consistently showed the binary nature of the gospel in very stark terms which might seem shocking, particularly to a modern audience. In reality though, for the Christian it is a great encouragement to be reminded of our certain status in Christ. In both 1 John and Genesis, we have seen the importance of obedience to the Lord and how this is a key part of what it means to be a follower of the Lord. Again, this idea of obedience and submission to authority is something at odds with our culture but something which is therefore very important to be clear on. In all of this, the key to viewing the world clearly is to be viewing the world through the lens of Scripture, rather than through the eyes of the world which lies in the power of the evil one.
