In this episode of The Troubadour I visit with my good friend Stoney Gabel whom I first got to know in my younger days in Manhattan, KS. Stoney was a bartender at the legendary Fat's in Aggieville during my college years and along with slinging drinks, started writing songs. Following his move to Texas he became plugged into the South Austin music scene and not long after that found himself hosting a weekly radio show with chainsaw artist and Texas musician and funny man Doug Moreland, and Jomo Edwards who's famous for his song/YouTube sensation "Guy On a Buffalo." Stoney's won songwriting contests and continues to hone his craft as a writer and performer.

Honky-tonk, a word that can have so many meanings and describe so many things: a honky-tonk can be a bar/beer joint/music parlor, it can describe a particular SOUND or STYLE of music, or it can be used as an adjective to describe a one, Lloyd McCarter.
Lloyd McCarter started his journey as a musician at the tender age of 8 years old playing in his family band early on and then continuing on that path to this day as the frontman for his own band, Lloyd McCarter and the Honky Tonk Revival.
Lloyd’s reverence for traditional country and the legendary artists who have and continue to play it, is easily heard in this episode of The Troubadour.
So kick back and enjoy my visit with Lloyd.

Today on The Troubadour I visit with Hays, KS native and K-State alum, turned Nashville transplant, Blake Chaffin. Soon after graduating college Blake made the journey to Music City USA and started piecing together what has today become not only a admirable career as a songwriter, but also a successful career as an entrepreneur with a business he built from the ground up. As a songwriter, Blake gutted it out in Nashville while honing his craft leading him to eventually secure a multi year publishing. He has went on to write with established and well known songwriters like Mark D. Sanders and Robert Earl Keen, as well as successful artists like Brantley Gilbert, Dustin Lynch and Logan Mize. Blake can easily be described as a prolific songwriter, penning over 120 new songs in 2017 alone. In this interview Blake exhibits just how important developing relationships with other people in the industry is and can be. Blake’s work ethic and approach to the craft of songwriting is something to be respected and should serve as an example for aspiring writers looking to succeed in a sea of competition.

On today’s episode of The Troubadour I’ll be visiting with fellow Kansan singer-songwriter and band leader, Lucas Maddy. Just like I did, Lucas really cut his teeth as a live performer and musician in Manhattan, KS during his college years. Even at a relatively young age, Lucas has already lead an interesting life. Along with his accomplishments as a live entertainer, Lucas is also a past student body president of Kansas State University and has a great story of when the Randy Rogers Band stumped for his campaign. In this episode Lucas divulges hows the connections he’s made in life have created opportunities for him to hob-nob with high profile politicians, including U.S. presidents, as well as taking a spin on a mini-bike owned by Red-Dirt music forfather, Mike McClure and the unfortunate crash into Mike’s trailer that followed. So, make sure your ear buds are in tight, and your glass it full of your favorite beverage and enjoy.
