Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction! Today's' guest is a dear friend, Tali Bermudez, with 13 years sober from drugs and alcohol. Her story is incredible and her sobriety is breathtaking. Tali was born in Santa Monica and grew up splitting time between the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles. This experience provided her with a broad perspective of the ever-evolving city. Tali’s professional background is rooted in excellent customer experience. She majored in Psychology at Cal State Los Angeles, then went to work in various careers. She began in the apparel industry, learning sales for the next ten years. Soon afterward, she moved into consulting for a prominent plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. More recently she managed an accounting firm front office with over 200 clients. Her experience in client care and service for over ten years allows her to transition smoothly into the world of real estate. Currently married and mama to a three-year-old daughter and 12-year-old stepson. Tali spends a lot of outdoor time with her children. In her free time, she provides guidance for adults and youth, with various needs.

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction (and living sober.) Today's guest is a sober friend and professional mastermind named Devon Craig.  Early into sobriety, Devon's career took off and gave her a life on the outside that culture and years of conditioning tells us we all want. Despite lots of accolades and financial successes, her intuition told her when things weren't right. She continued to pivot and trusted that she would land on her feet.         Today's episode is deeply personal.  For the first time, I speak publicly about my husband's infidelity-what led up to it, what I went through during it, and what I did to recover from it.  I tell you this story because it is my truth and because the work I have done around it has led to one miracle after another.  I share my heartbreak because for me, it is the only way to real freedom, and the love I kept giving away to him I now have for myself.  If you've been betrayed, if you've suffered great loss, I know that pain and it is real and it is deep.  I also know that if you work in it and through it, there is a liberation on the other side no matter what the outcome.  Tune into today's episode for a touching story of how I turned tragic loss into triumphant love.

Today's episode is a special interview with a sober sister, Laura Greenberg, who knows a thing or two about navigating the tumultuous waters of marriage.  Among other things, Laura describes overcoming some serious internal blockages that ultimately led to the collapse of her limiting beliefs and a rebirth of her inner world and ultimately, her marriage.

Laura’s journey began in Los Angeles.  Growing up she desperately sought to find out what she was supposed to do with her life. She moved to Edinburgh, Scotland at the age of 20 to pursue avoiding answering that question. While there, she worked in the corporate world for companies like Ernst & Young and Standard Life in Human Resources. She became a keen saleswoman as a Recruitment Consultant for an international recruitment company.
 
Laura was lured home to the ocean breeze of Santa Monica with an opportunity to become a Flight Attendant on private jets. She spent several years flying A-list celebrities and billionaire philanthropists around the globe in luxury style.
 
Laura’s life took a drastic turn when she ended up in the hospital on and off for several months in 2006. Unsure of what was going on, she dove deep into studying alternative healing modalities, spirituality, and anything she could get her hands on to get better. Overcoming addiction is a big part of her story which led to a deep connection to a higher power and being of service.
 
Slowly, but surely she got her health back but was forever transformed. She could not go back to a life without deep purpose. She knew she was here to help others do the same – discover who they truly are and help them share it with the world. 

Laura became a Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner where she learned to harness life force energy to focus on specific areas targeted for deep healing and relaxation. She spent years at an integrative healing center where she mastered guiding patients through holistic healing sessions.

Coaching became her passion when she realized that one single session could be powerful enough to create impact in someone’s life. Laura began incorporating years of experience, endless workshops, her work with leaders in this community, and her Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology into each session creating lasting change that was needed in her clients lives. 

Laura’s clients include Academy award nominated actors, Executives in all industries, Producers, Entrepreneurs, Moms and Dads. She has worked with everyone from A-list celebrities and multi-billionaire philanthropists to entrepreneurs scraping by to follow their vision and bring it into reality.

Laura enjoys living with the ocean breeze of Santa Monica, CA with her husband, son, and bonus daughter. She loves cooking, traveling, kundalini, time with her soul sisters, and living a rich life filled with the whole range of the human experience.

Today's episode features a fascinating interview with Dr. Peg O’Connor, a recovering alcoholic and professor of philosophy specializing in addiction studies.

Peg has been sober for 34 years. She believes that philosophy helped her to get and remain sober, but she avoided Alcoholics Anonymous for the first 20 years of her sobriety because of the concept of a “higher power.” Now, Dr. O’Connor is the author of the forthcoming book, Higher and Friendly Powers: Transforming Addiction and Suffering (Wildhouse Publications, September 1, 2022). 

 In Higher and Friendly Powers, Peg O’Connor, PhD, addresses an audience much like herself: those in recovery who have struggled with the Christian-centric God at the heart of Alcoholics Anonymous. She brings our attention to a little-known fact: the term “higher power,” a touchstone in the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, was coined by William James, philosopher, psychologist, and intellectual giant of the early 20th century. 

 Drawing from her expertise in addiction studies and key themes from her book, Dr. O’Connor discusses:

Gwendolyn is an accomplished creative professional who is constantly striving for excellence in her work as an actor, singer, entrepreneur, and personal wellness coach. 

Her career began as a runway, print, and commercial model that helped set the stage in becoming one of the models on The Price is Right show. A consummate professional, Gwendolyn was a part of the show for over 12 years and gained a historical accolade as the longest-running woman of color model on a game show. 

She would then join the cast of Wonder Woman 1984 as one of the Amazonian Women. It was on the set of this blockbuster movie where she captured her inner strength and power and truly took stock of what it meant to be a real-life Wonder Woman. She pushed the boundaries of her physical and mental strength while mastering her craft as an actor, transcending her experience into her everyday endeavors and passion projects. 

Always a believer in never taking life’s lessons for granted, Gwendolyn took her experience from her time on Wonder Woman to cultivate an inspiring message for women and developed a podcast that creates meaningful conversations with other women of all different backgrounds and professions. Tea with Gwen embodies her commitment to supporting women at scale by creating a platform that shares inspiring and motivating stories. 

Gwendolyn’s never-ending pursuit of connecting the body, mind, and spirit energized her to learn more about nutrition, skincare, and the science behind it all. Which has led her to launch Lomolique, an innovative anti-aging facial oil that combines cell regeneration properties with natural ingredients found in plants. However, her pursuit of connecting the body, mind, and spirit into one doesn’t end here. After completing and graduating courses with The Path organization, she also became a certified Meditation Teacher.  

Gwendolyn’s drive to pursue excellence in her life has always been inspired by her three talented and creative children, ranging from 9 to 25 years old. They have become a source of inspiration and determination to be an example of what it truly means to live a life of a real-life Wonder Woman.
