  • 12. Data Wars – Apple is Tracking You
There’s this banner going out, Apple saying, “We’re the good guy.” But here’s what bothers us about this big iOS update. Essentially Apple is saying you guys are bad guys for sharing all this data, but then they are tracking all of our data and they’re using that data to make lots of money.

In today’s episode, we’re going to give a few examples here of why this is, in my opinion, messed up. Don’t be fooled. Apple is not saying, “We’re not going to track you.” They are saying, “We are going to beat everyone in business and not let you not share our data with any of you.”
It’s messed up. In our opinion, that is messed up. Jason has already jumped ship and he’s always been an Apple fan.

Bottom line is this is Apple is trying to strong arm everybody for their data. And this is where I draw the line because we’re at risk here of putting small businesses, agencies, people who run their own ads, literally out of business. If you don’t know what’s going on, and want to get caught up on the inside scoop, then listen in to this powerful conversation between Jason and Eric. It’s eye-opening!

Apple is pissing everyone off and basically being the bully in the sandbox.

If anyone’s struggling with the Apple update out there. We have a resource for you go to our website, a download on everything you need to do for the checklist.

Apple has pushed the release of the iOS 14 Facebook update another two months, so, we have a little bit more time. We’re going to talk about this in another episode, but get the checklist so you can be prepared.

  • 11. Charging for Additional Agency Services
Do we sell additional “Agency Services?” Sometimes. We focus on Facebook and Instagram ads, that’s what we specialize in, that’s what our superpower is, and that’s what we do the best.

But we always get asked by clients and we get referrals, “Hey, do you build landing pages? Do you do this, or do you do that?” We’ve said “no” to a lot of stuff. But we’ve also, in the last year or so, said “yes” to a lot of additional services.

So, with this episode we, Jason and Eric, give you some guidance and guidelines, things to think about when taking on additional services.

    – How much to charge, and what not to charge?

    – Should you “White Label” your services?

    – Do you give away “freebies?” And when do you mark up software and other tools?

    – Is it okay for a client to hire you, then fire you and take your work to their “in house” team?

    – And much more!

We’re letting you learn from our stories and mistakes, because your work, if good, should be valued by your clients. And you should charge accordingly.

Most of us as agency owners have fallen into the trap of saying “yes” to too many things and not charging enough. It’s a dangerous cycle, a vortex that can be tough to get out of sometimes. We’re here to help you avoid some pitfalls, if you’re an agency owner or are starting an agency.

Also, if anyone’s struggling with the Apple update out there. We have a resource for you go to our website, a download on everything you need to do for the checklist.

  • 9: What’s a Good Cost Per Lead?
Today I’m discussing a question I get asked multiple times every day. What is a good cost per lead? There’s not an easy answer and if you’re getting a quick number from someone that doesn’t know your business, you can’t trust it.

In today’s episode, I talk about the data and numbers that businesses should use to think about what a realistic cost per lead should be for them. Today we take a deep dive into the specifics of what a cost per lead should look like and the variables that you need to think about for your business.

After looking at your price point and margins, you also need to look at your lead conversion rate – do you want cheap leads that aren’t going to convert? There’s definitely a payoff of spending more on quality leads. If you’ve ever had questions about your cost per lead, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

    Highlights:

    – First question – What is your final price point?
    – Leads that are going to convert
    – Ecommerce and digital products will have different CPL
    – Build trust from the beginning – strong copy – not click-bait

  • 8: Generating Trust in Client Relationships with Kyle Brothersen
Kyle Brothersen is the Founder of Dirt Bike Channel, where he shares bike and gear reviews, as well as how-to and trail ride videos to fellow dirt bike enthusiasts. Today we talk about our advertiser – client relationship and how Facebook ads have transformed his business.

Kyle Brothersen started Dirt Bike Channel as a hobby and over the course of 10 years he has grown it into a full-time job. Dirt Bike Channel is an informational channel about dirt bikes, and Kyle never set out to make money from this hobby. But Dirt Bike Channel continued to grow organically over time.

I loved this opportunity to visit with Kyle because our relationship is unique. I was a fan and follower of the Dirt Bike Channel for years. Last year I reached out to Kyle to see if we could talk about how I might be able to help him grow his business. He was able to see that I was a customer, and genuinely interested in Dirt Bike Channel, so we were able to talk and discuss working together.

Facebook ads have been very successful for Kyle and he’s a great client. He’s seen the results and trusts the team at Spotlight to manage his ads without micromanaging.

You should check out our conversation and hear how Kyle organically grew Dirt Bike Channel and how things took off once he started marketing and outsourced Facebook ads.

    About Kyle Brothersen
Kyle founded Dirt Bike Channel where he produces, films, edits, and plans the videos. He is passionate about off-road dirt bike riding. Until October of 2018, Kyle worked a full-time technology sales job during the day and worked on Dirt Bike Channel in his off-hours. Recently, he decided to focus on Dirt Bike Channel full time and see where he can take it. When he’s not working, he likes to head to the outdoors with my family doing things like camping, riding dirt-bikes, boating, hiking, and taking pictures.

    Highlights from the conversation:

    Dirt Bike Channel’s Organic Growth
Kyle focuses on valuable content, not on the number of views
    When outsourcing makes sense
Looking inside the sphere of influence for someone that has a vested interest

  • 7: The Importance of Failing with Ralph Burns of Tier 11
Ralph Burns is the Founder of Tier 11, a wildly successful Facebook and Instagram ads agency. Today we talk about the certification course I attended, when I was brand new to social media marketing. I was a newbie but everyone saw my drive and determination that week during the training, which eventually helped me land a job with Ralph’s agency. He also shared a wise practice – hire good people – then figure out where they fit in your agency.

You can’t have success without failure, so Ralph and I discuss why everyone needs to be willing to fail AND my biggest failure when I was still new at his agency. He was gracious, and I owned my mistake, and we both learned from the failure (even though the client eventually left). Ralph shares the importance of looking in the mirror when a mistake happens and the processes that his agency has added to minimize failures now.

Everyone can benefit from listening to this podcast as we’re all on a continuous journey to success.

    More About Ralph
Ralph is the founder of Tier 11 a very successful Facebook and Instagram Ad Agency and has managed over 100 Million in annual ad spend for their customers.

  • 6: How YouTube / Google Ad Strategies and Facebook Ads work Hand-in-Hand with Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer from OMG Commerce joins me today, and we break down some super powerful ad strategies involving his specialty, Google, and YouTube ads. It’s unreal how much they enhance the effectiveness of Facebook ads and vice versa.

Chris is the co-founder of OMG Commerce. His company has risen to the level that less than 3% of all Google partner agencies worldwide attain, which is the rank of Premier Partner. His company delivers online and offline marketing expertise, advice, and education to eCommerce businesses.

And today, we’re spilling the beans on how you can leverage the power of Google, YouTube, and Facebook to get some kick-ass results from your ad campaigns. That’s the whole point of this podcast, to tell you things that no one else is necessarily telling you about.

Before we get into the actual tactics you can employ and some of our best strategies, we cover one of the essential aspects: mindset. If you come in with a mindset already thinking, “Hey, this is a long game here, right?” Just know that we’re also in it for the long game, and sometimes it takes time to get everything humming along nicely, pumping out an excellent return on your ad spend.

When do you know that Google is a good move for you?

Chris says, “One quick tip is to simply go into Google search on a clean browser and start typing your brand name. If your brand name doesn’t pop up in suggested search quickly, that’s a sign that you’re not yet quite ready for Google.

But if you start typing in your brand name and you see your ‘brand name coupon code,’ ‘your brand name reviews.’ Your brand named this, your branding that, then your Facebook ad spend is creating that search in Google. And then you are absolutely 100% leaving money on the table even for branded search. And that’s when it’s a good idea to take a look at getting into Google ads.”

Listen to this killer conversation, and you may realize that you are also leaving money on the table and should consider some of these strategies. Or maybe it’s not quite time.

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate you all and look forward to next time!

    About Chris
Chris is a visionary and has been an entrepreneur for over 20 years. Mary is the CEO and founder of Messenger Funnels and has been nicknamed the “ChatBot Mom” because she’s awesome, number one, but she got that name from all her conversational marketing community and people that she worked with.

With one client making almost over a million dollars in just 99 days exclusively off of messenger funnels. Mary built and she trained students to do the same thing through Bot Academy as well, which we get into during the episode.
    A

s we discuss during our conversation, marketing is conversation, and chatbots are the ideal way to connect with ideal customers and guide them through a conversation, ultimately leading you’re your desired call to action.

In today’s world, people are more inclined to carry on a “conversation’ through electronic means like texting and chatbots. And when combined with some strategic Facebook ad campaigns, a chatbot can leverage your messaging into a marketing “freight train.”

  • 3: Getting My Ads Agency Off the Ground with Deacon Bradley
Hey everybody, today I have somebody on the show today that really helped me get my Facebook ad agency off the ground. I’m super grateful for everything that Deacon Bradley did for me and continues to do for me actually, but really, in the beginning, he was an integral part of my agency getting started.

Deacon currently is the VP of Operations at Tier 11 which is a full-service Facebook ad agency that completely kicks @ss. Deacon has been in the Facebook ad agency game for a long time. He was the founder, originally, of his own agency called Funnel Owl, which later merged with Ralph Burns at Tier 11.

Deacon and Ralph and everybody at Tier 11 helped me start my journey and continue my journey in the Facebook ad world as an agency owner. And during this episode, we talk about Deacon’s story and how he happened to be there for the training I attended in Austin which really launched my new career.

And as I worked early on to prove myself Deacon recognized my efforts and was kind enough to throw me a bone, actually a couple of bones. He gave me some of his own clients, one of which I still have today.

You can hear it in our conversation, but we just love helping businesses grow and it frustrates us when they’re not reaching their full potential. we love to bring our talent to the world and to see a business that comes to us who’s struggling with Facebook and Instagram ads, or they are struggling as a business in general, and to just take them from mediocre to just awesome.
It’s the best feeling in the world.

So tune in and listen to what makes guys like us tick, and why we don’t compete in this business. We’re all here to help other businesses grow and if we need to tap into each other’s resources and talents now and then, we will.
Deacon also tips us off about their new podcast, Virtual Business, which couldn’t come at a better time.

If you’re an agency owner or even a business owner that is running Facebook ads, this episode is worth a listen. I need to thank Deacon again for coming on to share his story and for his generosity.

And thank you, listeners, as well, catch you next time!
