This episode continues a lengthy series reviewing a key historical section of the founding of conservative Christian media from Dr. Bennett's last book, "Two Masters and Two Gospels, Vol. 1: The Teaching of Jesus Vs. the "Leaven of the Pharisees" in Talk Radio and Cable News," of which more about it and its availability can be found here. It picks the review of the mid-century Christian Economics newsletter from the CIA vaults, which illustrated the new Christian mass media message with its calls to reduce worker wages and benefits, while showing polls of how it was changing the minds of Christians (who were unimpressed with Ronald Reagan, and unconcerned about homosexuality and abortion at the time), and other reports showing the wealth of Christian mass media and corporate support as early as 1980, with the mass largesse and influence of corporate underwriting and influence at the time, and its strong conservative voting emphasis, and earlier similar reports emphasizing the media influence of Carl McIntire and Billy James Hargis, alongside the John Birch Society. The "Contemporary Intelligence Briefing Case File" delves deeper into the Tim Ballard/Operation Underground Railroad story, and documented instances by VICE of their exaggerations or mislead rescue claims, and exploitation or meddling with law enforcement, as the tip of the iceberg.
