This week on the Grind, Joey and Jason guys discuss the idea of surrendering to life and the ideas from Michael Singer's book 'The Surrender Experiment. In the book, Singer describes his journey of how he became interested in meditation, how he started the Temple of the Universe and the Medical Manager Corporation, etc. The central theme of the book is about his attempts to "surrendering yourself to Life itself", or not letting his personal ego to intervene with the flow of life.
Joey and Jason spend some time talking about how you can achieve this, viewing the ideas that pass through your mind as separate from yourself and in turn viewing yourself as a listener, or a more passive participant. Joey brings up some anecdotes from Michael Singers work. One in particular about building a house, that highlights the advantages of sitting back and 'letting life happen'.
The conversation moves on to the topic of avoiding a negative mindset and how surrendering to your circumstance can help you be positive. Jason ties this to his desire to not care as much what other people think, and how that worry can obstruct you from opportunities you would have otherwise taken advantage of. Joey tells a story about "Donna the crazy gravy lady" that highlights this quite well.
The guys round everything up by discussing how to overcome the general in-built resistance that we all have to doing things that would help us achieve our goals but may be difficult for some reason, Whether societal perception or personal anxiety. Blocking out that voice in your head that questions you at every turn, stopping second guessing yourself and embracing what you previously may not have recognised as opportunities. In other words, 'the power of the pos' is the message of the episode, join Joey and Jason next week to follow their journey on the Grind. "Only those who attempt the absurd, achieve the impossible".

Authors of the popular book Breaking Through Bias: Communication Techniques for Women to Succeed at Work, married lawyers Andie Kramer and Al Harris have been mentoring women and speaking and writing about gender communication for more than 30 years. This power couple brings a unique viewpoint to both women and men looking to navigate gender bias. They are frequent keynote speakers and conduct workshops for multinational organizations to better understand the world of gender bias.
In this episode Joey and Jason pick Andie and Al's brains about all things bias, conscious or unconscious. They hit upon topics such as Intersectionality, implicit bias and how society's stereotypes affect individual outlooks. They also discuss the intersectional hierarchy and how it affects people's different levels of prejudicial experiences. Joey and Jason for the most part give Al and Andie the floor in this episode as they explain some concepts to the guys that often go unsaid or unnoticed in modern society.

On this Special one hundredth episode of The Grind we feature returning guest of the show Jeb Blount. Jeb is the CEO of Sales Gravy, Keynote speaker, Sales Acceleration Specialist, author of ten books and most importantly, guest of one of the first episodes of The Grind.
Jason and Joey start episode 100 with a reflection on their podcast journey and how far they have come since episode 1. They continue that theme into the interview with Jeb as they begin to discuss milestones and why you should look back on the journey whenever you achieve a meaningful goal. The guys then talk to Jeb about a common theme that runs through all their lives, in that they all draw content from their daily lives and how they maintain a work-life balance.
The Main theme of this episode is dealing with rejection. To start off, Jeb talks about why rejection causes a measurable biological effect, and how you can deal with it healthily. The guys then discuss the nature of why we fear rejection and how it ties into the self-preservation instinct. Jeb brings up the failed techniques that permeate our society for dealing with rejection, and how understanding your purpose can alleviate the negativity associated with rejection.
Joey begins the next section by asking Jeb if it's possible to train anyone to get past their fear of rejection. After his answer, Jeb talks a bit about empathy and the different levels of it that people can experience, how this can affect you and why assertiveness is important. Jason and Joey elaborate on the three characteristics that make great sales people, relaxed, confident and assertive. They also discuss why those characteristics make people want to talk to you. To finish up Joey asks Jeb if the phone is dead, and the guys debate how relevant person to person calls are. Happy episode 100. Grind on.

This week's episode is a free-flowing conversation between Joey and Jason about 'Brules' or bullshit rules. The subject of society's expectations and unquestioned traditional ideas can be expansive topic to cover, Joey and Jason put it in the context of self-improvement so as to be more manageable. The first aspect Joey brings up is about the things we are not supposed to share about ourselves i.e. money or personal matters, and how we can attempt to let go of some of that stigma. The guys then discuss the process of separating yourself from your emotions, implementing self-awareness in the moment and when to internalise emotional reactions for self-reflection.
Jason talks about the key to happiness being self-discipline and how that is inextricably linked to avoiding temptation. Joey mentions how societal programming bears most of the blame for our difficulties in that regard and brings up the example of Mowgli from 'the Jungle Book'. His innocence versus the archetypes that are presented to his character from society serve as a great universal metaphor for growing up. After discussing the subjective nature of normality, Jason and Joey really hit home the point that bad habits lead to diminishing options.
Joey talks a bit about why he deleted most of his social media presence and people's disbelief when he tells them. The guys then move on to Jason's eighty-hour work week and whether Jason can improve his situation with a change in mindset and outlook. Jason talks about the pressure to step up and perform that owning a business forces upon you and Joey asks Jason to define what 'doing what it takes' means to him. Finally, the guys talk about the importance of calling your friends out on their bullshit and they remind us to question whether each action you take brings you closer to fulfilment. Grind on

"Redemption is the salvation of a soul that is lost, usually from human error".
Jason and Joey return for episode 98 of the Grind, Redemption Road. The guys waste no time jumping into the theme of the episode and they start by defining redemption, and what it means to them. Joey talks about the destiny aspect of when you are doing what you are supposed to do. Joey then describes how redemption is akin to the hero's journey and he delves into some points from 'The Daily Stoic' by Ryan Holiday. Jason talks about the position he finds himself in, and how he understands that you have to surrender to the process sometimes to actually progress. Jason then talks about rejection, how it can physically affect you and control you subconsciously.
"It sounds sexy to say 'Fail Forward', but guess what, in order to fail forward you actually have to fail".
Joey reminds the audience that there is always someone worse off, especially those who are yet to realise where they are failing. Jason describes how when you are going through a tough time it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. Joey and Jason then talk a bit about how you can transform yourself with discipline, but it requires honest conversations with yourself. This leads the guys to reflect on the nature of the conversations that they have on the podcast and why most people never have conversations on that wavelength.
"If you don't like your story, you need to figure out how to change it"
The final topic the guys cover is the ending of your life movie, or the finish line of the race. Whatever it is for you, if the ending was now, how would you feel. The guys see this as a great catalyst for action and they weigh up why disregarding what people who aren't important to you think is important. Lastly Jason talks about why you need someone to talk to about the real things in your life, the advice is simple, find someone to talk to. Grind on.

"Be detached from the outcome but enjoy the process".
This week on the Grind, Joey is holding down the fort for a solo interview with Tom Wheeler. Tom is a young, up and coming agent with Keller Williams and at 22 he already has 4 years of experience. The theme of this episode is defining moments and how you should try to react to and perceive them. Joey and Tom initially discuss what drove him to push past the stigma associated with younger estate agents, and Tom talks about how the entrepreneurial aspect of real estate helped fuel his passion. Joey brings up the intuition that a person feels when they are in the right position in life and the guys discuss some methods for analysing whether you are moving towards that or not.
"I am in full control of the abundance in the universe".
Next, Tom and Joey talk about not being obsessed with the destination but focusing on enjoying the journey. Tom talks about how it can be useful to disregard other people's expectations when setting them for yourself. He then brings up anxiety, and Tom explains how anxiety is born out of lack of control and how understanding that can lead you to let go of that need for control. Joey unpacks how the element of not being present in modern life (due mainly to technology) can be massively detrimental to your awareness of opportunities.
"The power of the pause is so extreme".
Following the discussion on being present, Tom and Joey throw some ideas back and forth about perception and how you can use a positive mindset as a tool to reduce the damage from negative experiences. The guys bookend this by making a point about balance and how none of this works without taking balance into account. Tom tells some anecdotes about some moments of reflection he has had, and Joey builds on this by talking about the importance of pausing, whether it's pausing work, your worries or the expectations of others. Joey finishes up by explaining to Tom how far ahead of his peers he is at 22, and the guys give some final thoughts on the discussion.
