Hi There, welcome to this week’s episode of The Universe Is Your Friend!
In today's episode I'm talking about the importance of having an open mind and being willing to hear opinions from those who may not follow the same beliefs as you.
I've never followed a religion in my life, in fact, the opposite. For most of my life I was a self-proclaimed atheist. Four years ago, when I was eighteen-years-old, I discovered spirituality and fell in love!
However, my whole life I've rejected and even resented the concept of religion. Though there is nothing wrong with being an atheist, I felt superior to those who believed in such "silly" and sometimes "negative" ideas. Recently, I realised just how much this has been harming me throughout my life.
I want to make it clear I have never been a hateful or oppressive person due to my beliefs, or lack there of. I have never treated anyone differently or pushed others away for their beliefs, I just simply couldn't EVER see myself tolerating any sort of religious ideas.
And this showed, even up until recently! A few weeks ago I read "Super Attractor" by Gabby Bernstein. I was thoroughly enjoying the book, until I sensed slight religious undertones. I immediately found myself unconsciously disconnecting from and rejecting the book.
To make it clear, the book was the furthest thing from religious propaganda, it simply used the word "prayer".
I caught myself doing this; I was suddenly very conscious of my tendency to write off certain messages and teachings if there was even a slight hint of something that didn't align with my belief. I'm not sure why I have learnt to do this but now it's time to unlearn it.
Across this beautiful planet, we all believe different things. Some of us believe in God, some of us are Buddhist, some of us are Atheist and some of us are Spiritual. No matter what you believe, none of us are right, and none of us are wrong.
On the grand scheme of life and the cosmos. There is NO WAY that any of us, as humans, could predict the answer to life. None of us could accurately guess if there is a higher power, what is it, and how to interact with it 'correctly'.
So why bother worrying about who is right, who is wrong or if your beliefs align with the beliefs of someone else? We certainly should not let our misaligned beliefs stop us from growing together as people.
There are so many valuable lessons and ideas that I would have missed out on because I sensed the person sharing the message followed a religion that I do not. WHO CARES?
We simply get caught up on the language. Forget the ideas and belief system itself. Change the language to align with your belief system, and you might find yourself with a powerful message that could change your life.
I've read multiple books that stress to the audience to 'see through the language'. It's simply an indication to the point being made, it doesn't have to be anything more.
When Eckhart Tolle in "The Power Of Now" used the word "God" throughout the book, he wasn't referring to any traditional pre-conceived ideas of God or religion. It was simply the language he chose to describe the point he was making. As the audience, if we did not respond to the word God, we simply have the freedom to replace that word with one that resonates with us.
If you can learn to do this on a large scale, you will be unstoppable.
Don't make the mistake that I did. You don't want to miss out on a powerful message because the person sharing it follows a different belief system. Take what resonates with you and leave the rest.
None of us are right, none of us are wrong.
If you enjoy please show me some love in the form of a like, subscribe and review, it truly means SO much! I
