Our guest this week is Penny Gurstein - Professor and Director at of The School of Community & Regional Planning and Centre for Human Settlements. Penny is also the founder of The Housing Research Collaborative that includes past show guests Tom Davidoff and David Lee.

We met at UBC and had a wide ranging conversation about how housing affordability research.

Since recording this episode Penny has been appointment to the BC Housing Board of Commissioners whose role is to oversee policy implementation and provide strategic guidance to BC Housing, to help deliver on government’s plan for housing affordability and fairness.

Unfortunately it's nothing new to hear about young people leaving Vancouver. In recent times, one of the most memorable farewells to the city has come from journalist Jessica Barrett.

Jessica wrote an opinion piece for the Tyee back in October 2017 titled, "I Left Vancouver Because Vancouver Left Me".

With the article being shared online nearly 20,000 times, clearly this message resonated with a lot of people in this city.

Our guest this week is tax expert and friend of the show, Chris Thompson. Chris has a list of policies the government could implement. Some are ridiculous, but most are great.

As of March 15th an agent will no longer be able to represent both buyer and seller in a transaction. As an advocate for greater real estate ethics, I think this is a step in the right direction for consumers. As for how the rules are actually implemented...it's a mess and consumers are about to be hit big time if changes aren't made.
