But, a Russian airstrike on a Mariupol maternity hospital that killed three and wounded 17 others drew outrage. Among the wounded included women that were pregnant and children buried in the rubble. Meanwhile, colleges across the U.S are pulling students from study abroad programs in Russia, and ending research partnerships and cutting financial ties to condemn the invasion. At the same time, colleges have promised to support Russian students in their campuses, opposing calls from so in Congress to remove them from the country. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🤰🏽👨🏽‍🎓

Locally, the first licences to sell recreational marijuana in New York will go to people who were casualties of the war on drugs. We're remembering Charles Edward Entenmann, who helped then his family's New York-based bakery into a national brand. He's died at the age of 92. He's a grandson of William Entenmann, a German immigrant who founded a bakery in Brooklyn in 1898. You may have heard of it.

On #TheUpdate this Wednesday, efforts are still ongoing to coordinate safe routes of escape for Ukrainian civilians out of besieged cities as the invasion rounds out its second week. In the time since the invasion began, some 2 million people have filed Ukraine. Officials say that more people will be able to leave the port of Sumy today through a humanitarian corridor Russia and Ukraine agreed to. Meanwhile, of the more than 2 million who've fled, children make up more than 1 million of them. 🇷🇺🇺🇦👦👧

Locally, two modest rooms in New York City are the first places in the country where local officials are allowing illicit drug use in order to make it less deadly. Supporters of supervised injection sites see them as humane responses to a national surge in overdose deaths, while critics see them as illegal and defeatist. In Central Park, plumes of white smoke from multiple brush fires went spiraling up from the northern end, and authorities said they were investigating the possibility that arson was to blame. Multiple pockets of fire were extinguished and there were no injuries.

In Minneapolis, teachers have hit the picket lines at public schools, calling their strike a fight to ensure "safe and stable schools" for students and for better wages for the lowest-paid support staff. As the cross-border exodus from Ukraine continued today, the humanitarian situation in the country’s besieged cities is growing worse, including in Mariupol, where bodies lay uncollected in the streets and hopes for a mass-evacuation of civilians were dashed yet again. A Ukrainian government official says 5,000 people, including hundreds of foreign nationals, did manage to leave the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy through a humanitarian corridor Russia and Ukraine agreed to Monday. They were driven by bus southwest to the Ukrainian city of Poltava. Meanwhile, President Biden announced a U.S. ban on Russian oil imports. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇺🇲

Ukrainian officials say that Russian aircraft bomber cities in eastern and central Ukraine overnight, and as the war enters day 13, food, water, heating and medicine are growing increasingly scarce. Meanwhile, today is a global day to celebrate women, but many fleeing Ukraine feel only the stress of finding a new life for their children as husbands, brothers, and father's stay behind to defend their country from the invasion. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇺🇳

Locally, Judge Allison Nathan is set to question one of the jurors who conviction the British socialite Ghislane Maxwell of helping the millionaire Jeffery Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.

It's a new world in New York City as they've shed major COVID-19 precautions. Masks are now optional in city schools, and restaurants and other businesses can stop asking patrons for proof of vaccination. Businesses can require vaccination if the choose to. MacKale McGuire, a cancer survivor who lost a leg, recently took the stage on his small northern Michigan hometown to star in his school's performance of Disney's "High School Musical." A Ukrainian official said that today's talks with Russia yielded a little progress toward evacuations issue and that he hopes safe corridors will be "fully functional" by tomorrow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged his people to keep resisting the assault, which U.N officials say has forced more than 1.7 million people to flee Ukraine. Zelenskyy also called for a global boycott of all Russian products, including oil. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇺🇳

Meanwhile, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said today that the government would speed through new legislation that would allow New Zealand to target people, companies, and assets connected to those in Russia associated with the Ukrainian invasion. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇳🇿

Locally, just six months after he resigned from office in disgrace over sexual harrassment allegations, former governor Andrew Cuomo appeared to be hinting at a political comeback in remarks at a t Brooklyn church Sunday. He offered no specifics.

The likelihood of additional casinos opening in New York City concerns Atlantic City's casino bosses, but they feel there is still time to fix the seaside gambling resort's woes before that happens. In Florida, huge wildfires have forced veterans at a 120-bed nursing home to evacuate. Meanwhile in Iowa, authorities there say seven people are dead after tornadoes swept through, destroying homes, knocking down trees, and toppling power lines in the deadliest storm in the state since 2008. His plea comes as Russian forces continue to batter strategic locations with missiles and artillery, and also after NATO's refusal to impose a no-fly zone. Ukrainian officials also said that shelling had halted the work to evacuate civilians from two cities as a cease-fire deal quickly fell apart just hours after Russia announced it. 🇺🇦🇷🇺🇺🇲
