The UX Blog Podcast Episode 13
UX Culture & Enterprise Companies as Small Firms
In this episode Ben and Mark, founders of Fuzzy Math, discuss the following topics:
Building a UX culture for your clients
- Study/research your clients. Understand their needs and motivators. Customize the process
- We generally do it as part of a design project, not stand-alone. Demonstrates value.
- Teach them by showing and doing:
-
- Specifically teach them the ask the right questions.
- Generally want to cancel research or not pay for it.
-
- Be flexible with your approach
Why enterprise companies turn to small firms to solve their problems
- Speed - We get dropped int complex ecosystem and deliver immediately. No overhead. No "account" people. Our designers talk directly to our client
- Niche/focus - One thing and do it well. Can trust that.
- Client is Tech-focused - No design, need a full time
- Client is sales/procurement focused - Not talking to end user at any time (lot of steps between the the user and the decision maker)
- Idea stagnation - Not sure what to do next, we either do or put a plan in place
-
- Flexible, highly skilled (no B players)
- Internal disagreements - Help people make decisions
